This has a Black Mirror vibe to me.

2 random observations:

The show reminds me of the show "Last man on Earth" but on steroids

Carol's chaperone (Ana I think?) looks a ton like a young version of the actress Mary Steenburgen.

In the first episode, when the guy on TV is talking to Carol, he said that there were the 13 left, but he figured it would be about 20 days or so and they would have that figured out. So, the clock is ticking before they come in with a solution and convert them all.

The "pirate" lady in episode 2 (maybe 1?) mentioned that it could be a few months.

im hearing mixed things on this. What do you compare it to, and do I need to take notes to understand it?

I don't really have something to compare it to. Its a unique concept--but it isn't a complicated one. There are obviously still plenty of questions (there are only three episdoes thus far)--but it isn't confusing or hard to follow.

Vince Gilligan doesn't miss. With a gun to my head I would say its a mashup thematically/cinematically/etc. of BrBa/BCS, Severance, and Black Mirror but without the mass confusion of the latter two.

Give it a shot. The pilot gets right into it--definitely not a slow build like Gilligan's other two shows.

It reminds me of this Rick and Morty episode most of all.

I thought the same thing about that hive mind episode. Christina Hendricks is great in that and Solar Opposites!

You shouldn't, but judging by some of the questions in this thread by others.....maybe.

Sort of like Last Man on Earth, but... not.

What I mean by that is that while the setup in the first episode is pretty dramatic, the actual universe that's created is pretty simple to understand (it even gets plainly and bluntly explained in the very first episode). As this is essentially a reset to how humanity works, you (the viewer) get in on the ground floor and are watching as Carol (to whom this is also equally new) is navigating this strange, new world.

Yeah that’s like 10% of the world population. On one hand it’s not terribly difficult to imagine how the entire world spazzing out for 15 minutes or whatever might result in a lot of deaths. On the other hand.. 10% of the population?

There may be more to the story, but right now I'm chalking up the non-accident deaths (plane accident, falling, etc) on pre-existing health issues (triggered aneurysm, heart attack, etc).

This show is off to such a great start. Vince Gilligan is such a genius at telling a story. I heard someone say though it has similarities with Severance, But Severance plays with the cards hidden while Gilligan kind of puts the cards out on the table out of the gate. There are certainly still mysteries to be explained but he has put a lot out there in the first two episodes. Also, I listened to the podcast and Gilligan seems like a good dude. If I had his gifts I would be far more pretentious than he seems.

With a little X-Files thrown in.

Yea I agree. It seems pretty explainable. Anyone engaged in any sort of transportation, medical procedure, or in a precarious physical condition would have a good chance of dying if everyone locked up all at the same time.

That is a huge plot point. Not sure how those human bodies are going to last more than a few months.

It is a big plot point and I’m sure it’ll be addressed. No way VG just glosses over that you’ve eliminated a massive source of food.

Now granted, many less mouths to feed and presumably the hive mind will ration appropriately and no one will be consuming an excess amount of calories.
