He is an incredible film maker. So much in fact that the he can take a stupid idea and for 90% of a movie make it feel like you are watching something great. I think people get pissed because his stories dont live up to the promise of his film making.

Agreed

I’ve always wished he’d direct stories by some other writers. Hell he can come up with the general story idea, because I do think he’s creative obviously. Just let someone else flush it out for him.

Apparently an adaptation of a fricked up French graphic novel with some very questionable and controversial content.

Yeah if that's the young daughter that's pregnant in the trailer - yikes

It is. It’s basically adolescent teenager bodies and hormones paired with the childlike brains and lack of impulse control of kids 10 and under.

Par for the disturbing French course.

That’s the problem with a filmmaker telling original stories instead of regurgitated crap.

One bad ending here, one plot hole there and suddenly all of your films are crap.

I don’t love all of his films, but I do enjoy them for his mostly original stories. And mostly original style of storytelling.

The graphic novel is free online, I read it earlier this year.

I’ll try to look for the link

Signs was an amazing movie.

Obviously Mel Gibson and Joquin Phoenix help, but the sense of dread is heavy and the internal struggle that Gibson battles is just so so powerful.

Gibson did so well. I hurt for him.

Not overly enthused, but I'll give it a watch just to confirm whether or not he still sucks at movie making.

Crazy how great he started and where he is now.
Yep.

Notice how they left out most of his clunkers in the description of his bio?

You say most and then list his movies. The vast monitory of directors would kill to have a lineup like he has. Sure he has some clunkers but I find the majority to be enjoyable with Sixth Sense being all time great and Split/The Visit being a good return.

This was one of the worst movies I’ve ever seen, as is on par with M. Night Shayamalan.

Shyamalan presents a very, very high bar on that. He made the worst and most insulting film of all time IMO in “The Last Airbender”.

I brought that movie up because i think its incredibly made. The coloring, mood, pacing, everything. ANd people still hate on the plot. I just think its a great example of the people that hate on MNS definitely should not be hating on him as a film maker

Sure but I don’t care how “well made” the film is. If the story sucks or has some stupid BS twist that anyone with a brain can see coming a mile away, I don’t care how great the production is. It’s still a bad movie.

I’d rather a mediocre production with a great story that a crap story that looks really good on screen.

That’s like the worst opinion I’ve seen on this board.

I get what you were trying to say and I don’t think you meant it maliciously but production quality goes over so many facets and bad production design usually makes for bad story

Can't imagine anyone paying to see this.

The trailer alone looks like he took the most ridiculous fantastical parts of Lost and said hey, lets do something even more retarded than that wind movie.

Does he finance his own films? I don't know how he keeps getting a pass by the studios.

I saw it yesterday. It was bad, but far from his worst.

The happening sets that bar very high (or low).

The twist is less of a twist than a sole reveal in this one.

The acting was bad for the most part. One massive plot hole drove me nuts and the only reason i even worry about it is because they went out of their way to try and explain it, but missed a huge piece.

The makeup is bad. They already set the precedent of changing actors with the aging kids, why not do it with the parents who are supposed to be 90 or so.

Couple funny parts, couple thrilling parts, couple uncomfortable parts.

All in all, D+
