Man, this is sad news and tough to take as a fan. Norm was one of the funniest and genuine comedians of all time.

For those that never watched “Mike Tyson Mysteries”, do yourself a favor and find clips on YouTube. Norm voicing the pigeon is some of the funniest content out there. RIP

One of my favorite Norm moments was when he completely took over Conan’s interview with Courtney Thorne-Smith

Norm roasting Bob Saget using only America Funniest Home Videos jokes is without a doubt the most brilliant comedic move of all time. What a legend.

I've never given a hoot about any celebrity deaths, but to this old chunk of coal, this is a national tragedy.

Seriously, though, Norm is the only celebrity hero I've ever had, and I'm genuinely devastated. It doesn't surprise me that he would hide that he had cancer all these years, but it also makes sense that he had such a unique perspective in his later years.

I remember when Norm first hit our radar. The clip of his “Guy Kills His Family Because the Devil Told Him To.” bit was voted the funniest bit of '91 on the old Comedy Channel (pre-Comedy-Central).
quote:

Lot of bad people, man. Lot of bad — I was reading this one guy, in the paper, y’know? Baddest guy I ever read about. This guy killed his family- if you can believe this, folks- killed his family because the devil told him to. Can you believe that? Man! What a dork, eh? That was the headline, actually: “What A Dork!” “Guy Kills His Family Because the Devil Told Him To.”

But can you imagine that, and then afterwards, you go back to the devil, y’know, you go, “Yes, Devil! I did as you instructed- I- I slaughtered my family as they lay sleeping, and then I chopped ’em up and put ’em in a duffel bag. Here they are, I got ’em here in the duffel bag. I’ll be burying them tonight at the shallow grave by the side of the railroad track, as you have commanded, O Lord Host of the Hoary Netherworld.” And then the devil pulls off a mask, “It’s me! Bob!” Then you go, “Oh, Bob!! (sheepishly) Jeez- you got me there, Bob, you got me. Is my face red or what over here? I got my family in a duffel bag! That’s one for you there, Bobby Boy!”

I've been meaning to read Dostoevsky and Tolstoy for ages. I'm going to start tonight in Norm's honor.

I love everything he's ever done, but the 12-minute joke is the goat. LINK

YouTube has a great montage of Norm basically saving Late Night shows who had crappy guests on.

Then there's the famous 10 minute joke about Janice and his last appearance on Letterman.

He was a comedians comedian. Spade has some funny stories how it was almost impossible to be friends with Norm because he was usually ON in real life...playing jokes or just being weird.

Plus, the stories from SNL behind the scenes are legendary.

Comedians and hosts like Letterman really loved his humour as did most people who actually love real comedy.

Letterman:
quote:

In every important way, in the world of stand-up, Norm was the best. An opinion shared by me and all peers. Always up to something, never certain, until his matter-of-fact delivery leveled you. I was always delighted by his bizarre mind and earnest gaze. (I’m trying to avoid using the phrase, “twinkle in his eyes”). He was a lifetime Cy Young winner in comedy. Gone, but impossible to forget.
