Empire Strikes Back is the obvious one. I also liked Godfather II better than Godfather.
For remakes, I like the True Grit remake better than the original, but really like both of them.

Should the 2nd and 3rd movies of a trilogy really be considered sequels? I always considered sequels movies that kind of stood on their own like the Terminator movies, Ghostbusters, or Indiana Jones.

I think Rocky IV was better than some before it and Rocky II was as good or better than I.

It's one of the worst sequels to a Best Picture.

And then you have Rocky II.
Only Sting II is worse than Rocky II following an Oscar winner.
