Has to be it for me. I had no idea what this movie was about going in.

My mom had already seen the Crying Game and rented it for me and my grandparents when I was around 12. She couldn't wait for that scene to see our reactions. She also rented Deliverance for me at way too young of an age

The Crying Game

Had it spoiled by a D.J. who thought it was cute to broadcast the twist.

After the movie my wife asked what the big twist was supposed to be. When I told her she said, "We weren't suppose to know that?!"

The last scene in "No Way Out" when we find out that Kevin Costner was a Russian spy the entire time.

"Uri is in the building."

We quote that movie all the time.

That film had one of the most hilarious chase scenes ever. We lived in D.C. then, and Costner was running through the Metro transit system and popping up in parts of town that had no Metro stops or stations. It was like watching someone get on an escalator at Tiger Stadium and exit it at the Mall of Louisiana.

Arachnophobia had multiple shocking moments and still makes me tense as hell even though today you can tell when the daddy spider is a puppet scurrying across the basement floor

The right answer is definitely The Departed, but I'll never not laugh at Big Dan beating the shite out of Everett and Delmar seemingly outta nowhere

Children of Men. When Jullianne Morre's character got shot ..I mean you see the dude pull the gun and point it but it still felt sudden and shocking. And that explosion in the beginning. Really the whole movie was one gut punching scene after another.

No Way based on very different noir book called The Big Clock. Myn vote is Planet Of The Apes and Don't Look Now.

To answer the OP, this one from the original Alien took me by complete surprise in the theatre (I'd heard about the John Hurt dinner table scene going in and was somewhat prepared):

Sudden car crashes always do it to me.

The one at the start of Suburbia and the one in Winter Soldier both made me jump.

This right here!!

Was loving that movie until that happened, completely ruined it, all that build up to turn into a frickin vampire movie, never watched it again.

Dean Stockwell lip syncing "In Dreams" in Blue Velvet as Dennis Hopper cries.

Not shocking as much as a WTF is going on scene.

The actor who played Marvin came up with this, he was originally supposed to just accidentally be shot in the throat and then Jules and Vincent put him out of his misery when they realize he’s too far gone to be helped.
