I give you Hell on Wheels. The opening scene gave me goose bumps. I couldn't even finish the last season.

For the people that haven’t watched or want to watch Hell on Wheels.
Watching the woman with the bag over her face being hung, plus the railroad guy dying in some little cramped office at the end summed it up pretty good for me. The only thing I didn’t like is how Common’s character was finished off.

I didn't watch the last season, but I really enjoyed all the other seasons. I'm not sure why I dropped out, to be honest.
