As much as I'm liking MotA, I think it's too romantic and melodramatic, at least compared to BoB. Way too many shots at sunset or sunrise like in Top Gun. The main actors are too young and gorgeous. BoB and The Pacific didn't make the war so beautiful.

I'm still enjoying it a lot despite it not being BOB.
1917 was a good movie that had sort of a modernized/Disney-fied feel and I think this is similar. It's not cheesy or clunky, it's just doesn't provide the "yeah I could see it really looking/feeling like that" sense of BOB or Pacific.

I guess I get the critique of everyone looking “too polished”.
However, consider this.
Band of Brothers and The Pacific followed combat action troops who were on the ground, living in trenches and enemy territory for years. Remember the scene in Band of Brothers when they got to take a shower and how special that was? Or in The Pacific when the guy strips down to shower in the rain because that’s the only option?
These pilots are living on a base, sleeping in beds, access to showers, bathrooms, good meals, bars, etc…. Of course they’re going to look more buttoned up and polished, they aren’t going months at a time living in a hole and eating old war rations in freezing weather or hot tropical islands.
It would be unrealistic for the pilots to be portrayed as unclean and unpolished.

I was disappointed to learn they would be focusing on just the 8th out of England. My grandfather was on Liberators out of Foggia, Italy with the 15th. They had it rough in both living conditions and missions including several runs on Ploesti.

On Spiers run, or Winters taking out the German unit on D-Day, they didn’t even tell you the audience how awesome it was.
They literally had a voice over narrating Spiers run.

Didn't get around to watching E3 this weekend, so I will try to remedy that in the next night or two.

I'd imagine the average American isn't even aware that there was a war in Italy and southeastern Europe.

Yep. The “Soft Underbelly of Europe” it was called. They were quartered in old surplus tents that leaked and were frozen in the winter. He only talked about it once and then only briefly. You could tell that as a bombadier he carried the weight of all the people that were unfortunate to be beneath his bombs.

My great uncle flew B-24s with the 15th

My step father-in-law was a gunner in the Dauntless SBD in the Pacific. 40+ missions, 99 years old and will run circles around me to this day. Member of the board at WWII Museum in New Orleans. If you get a chance to go, please do. It's a great experience.
Go to see the 4D movie and check out all of the exhibits.

Would love to see a high quality movie or series on this.

To Hell and Back takes place in Italy

Finally watched E3. Absolutely loved it. It’s the best episode of the series so far IMO.
I’m enjoying the series but I find that the CGI takes me out of it a bit. I realize it has to be done but man it just feels like shitty video game graphics most of the time. Anybody else have the same feeling?
Every now and then the CGI looks great. The one scene where dude was looking out the window at all of the fighting going on was cool. As was the bomb dropping scene.
This show really makes those planes look like pieces of shite.
Felt bad for Baby Face but man that dude did all he could to help save him. Him staying any longer would’ve only gotten them both killed.
The crash landing scene was pretty intense. That dude did a great job acting because you could really feel that he knew he fricked up and was about to cost him and his buddy their lives. That was really well done.
I’m digging this series so far. It won’t be BoB and I don’t expect it to be. But The Pacific didn’t grab ahold of me…I liked it anns think it’s good but I was disappointed in it a bit. So this series has a chance to be as good as that or better. And I’ll be good with that if that’s how I view it when all is said and done.

I think that is where the polished part comes from. Everyone is use to seeing the boots on the ground type of flicks. Like a first shooter type of video game. Here we do not.

Defiance with Daniel Craig is a WWII movie about Jewish partisans in Belarus. It is pretty good.

They really weren’t though. Those bombers could take some serious punishment and make it back

Taking a wild shot in the dark here, but my guess is the Red Tails come in episodes 7 and 8. Dee Rees is directing those…

I don’t have a problem with that. My only concern is that they’re introduced historically accurate per their mission logs and not thrown in just to have diversity in MOTA.

Trying to figure out how they are going to connect the dots with the current cast based in England and and Red Tails south based around the Med. In regards to accuracy the movie was not so I assume many liberties will be taken here as well.
