Why was Bucky talking like that in the phone booth referencing the mission as a baseball game? Both a kindergartener and a German would be able to tell that he was talking about a bombing mission.
That scene was taken straight from the book.

I read the book and admittedly it would be a hard adaptation for anyone but this series is just disappointing especially given the talent behind it. I am a vet. Love BoN and the Pacific and have done multiple rewatches.
I have trouble making it through one episode of this show if it isn’t in the air or any lengthy dialogue is involved.
The power couple of Hanks and Spielberg fumbled on this one.
I was hoping that they were going to base the aerial one on Fly Boys but too many political footballs in that one. Japanese cannibalism and barbarianism but worse Bush Sr looks a hero.

I loved the focus on the ground and repair crews.

Oh. I didn’t realize that. Why do you think he did that?

I’m not sure why this is causing confusion. Clearly he was speaking in code. And it’s obvious to us in 2024 but may not have been as obvious back then. Not to mention it was likely just a precaution if anybody happened to be listening (which nobody likely was on that random phone anyway).

Book guys don’t spoil it for me please
But I really hope we see this character in the series again. Kinda weird how they handled his character this last episode

That's what I took it as. It's not like the Germans didn't know the US and RAF were doing daily bombing runs. As long as you avoided specifics with a simple code, you're not giving away the game, pun intended.

I'm three episodes in now and I'm not going to lie, I'm slightly disappointed. I got my hopes up thinking it was going to be Band of Brothers/The Pacific quality.
It's had some very corny parts/bad jokes and some bad CGI. Acting overall isn't that great.
Not bashing it, because I am enjoying it, but it's been a bit of a let down. Probably shouldn't go into it expecting it to be near some of the greatest mini-series' of all time.

Is anyone 3lse having a tremendously difficult time understanding the damn dialogue in this show?
Went back and watched BoB and there were no issues.
Just don't understand modern sound mixing.

I have to use subtitles . And I still don’t know who the characters are aside from Buck and Bucky . Oh well.

This is about how I feel. It’s still entertaining and better than most shows but I wish they had a bigger budget for the CGI. It’s been pretty bad at times.
Like you said I’m not going to bash it as I do like it but I was expecting much more.

Maybe a little more background to some of the missions would have been better
Did they know the impact they were having on war or were just flying missions and wondering who was gonna return?

The show is kind of all over the place. The missions are great. Everything else it kind of a dud.
Watching the show really made me just want to go back and watch Band of Brothers again... Which I did.
Losing Austin Butler is also going to be a huge loss for the viewer. He was basically the only actor everyone seemed to like. Overall, the show has been a pretty big disappointment.

He and Barry Keoghan are the only two actors distinctive enough to stand out, but Austin Butler seems to be sleepwalking through this series. If he ends up on the run, maybe it'll wake him up.

The problem the series displays in my opinion is that they don't have that much latitude to create interest.
In BoB or The Pacific, you had varied battlefields and situations, they could do something different every episode.
In Masters, the type of war being portrayed doesn't lend itself to much variation. They get a mission, they go up, they encounter flak and fighters, someone dies, someone limps home, they get drunk Rinse, Stir, Repeat.

I’m disappointed as well.
The two main characters are the worst actors on the show. Well maybe the colonel is worse.
Mustache Buck is very unlikeable.

I also took it as even if it were being monitored, it would likely be documented and scripted onto paper. And on paper that is a completely innocuous conversation about a baseball game and likely wouldn't be flagged or be anything worth noting.

I'm really enjoying this show, one of the better series' I've watched recently. I hated how we never got to see what actually happened to Buck. Kind of a weird choice to have it be Bucky making a phone call to find out that way. Understand its historical but an action scene would have been better than Bucky having a drunken one night stand. Or maybe it could've been a combination of the two.
Just a side note, Barry Keoghan is one of my favorite actors right now and that fight scene with the brit was hilarious.

I haven't read the book and didn't look up IMDB to see how many episodes Austin Butler was in but I can't imagine them killing him off like that. I am just assuming he survived the crash.
I really like Austin Butler, I'll probably always like him based on Elvis alone, but I don't think I've ever seen a more boring "main" character. I mean he shows no emotion, and has said probably a total of 50 words the entire series. But somehow he is the most likable character in the whole show, which kind of tells you something about how uninteresting the other characters are.
