WG,

continue to watch it in its entirety. It’s one of the best series on WW2 that ever came out. And don’t let these guys hand you shite because it’s an old show. Lol. I didn’t watch it till about three years ago ago.

Just finishing up a rewatch of The Pacific. It’s a very different story than BoB, but both are excellent.

Had an uncle that was in the 101st and my dad was in the 112th RCT in the Pacific. Both went through some of the worst fighting in both theatres.

Proud and blessed to say my dad and three of his brothers "served" in WWII and all four survived and came home and their youngest brother "served" in the Korean Conflict and came home. Needless to say my grandmother was a praying mother.

Yes, they referred to it as "served" and were all very proud to have served.

I'm not a fan in general of shows that just trample on you mentally and leave you feeling all bummed out for days after.

It's interesting you say this. The Pacific was one of the shows that pushed me into your line of thinking after I had watched it. I can't do overly depressing and/or really graphic things anymore, which The Pacific had both of. Especially if the content is based on real life stuff. It puts me in a bad place. Maybe that's me being cowardly and wanting to bury my head in the sand. I don't know. I do know it hits me really hard now and it's not enjoyable in the slightest.
No, it's completely understandable. I didn't really care for The Pacific, but really liked Band of Brothers.

There are shows and stories that I can respect the quality of, but don't enjoy.

Gonna blow his mind when Michael Fassbender, Tom Hardy, and James McAvoy all have about five sentences between them.

Band of Brothers is the best thing to ever be on television. That is the hill I will die on.

Ambrose did little to no research on BoB and took all of the veterans first hand accounts, although 40 years old as absolute fact. Winters had obvious reasons to dislike Sobel and that and everyone else's accounts painted Sobel as an incompetant a-hole.

Those vets just went back to their lives after WWII and felt that what they did in the service was no big deal and wasn't worth talking about. Even Winters (WHO SHOULD HAVE WON THE CMH!) had to be coxed by his wife to tell his story.

My dad was in the 508 (Easy was 506) and jumped on D-Day, Market Garden and was at the Battle of the Bulge, but never talked about his time in the service even when I asked him.

David Schwimmer’s GOAT performance. You almost want to see more of an extremely unlikable character.

It’s the one series I could probably rewatch forever.

Like others have said, I'm jealous you get to watch it for the first time. I watch it at least twice a year.

Anyone who watches the entire series and doesn't get emotional on the last words of the series doesn't have a heart.

"No...but I served in a company of heroes."

My son has been begging to watch this. He is infatuated by the military and always has been

Told him we could watch it when he turns 10. He turned 10 on April 28th so this thread timing was perfect

We watched our first episode together last night. He is hooked. But it took 2 hrs to get through with all his questions

Oh buddy, just wait until the Battle of the Bulge and a certain late night host makes a goofy appearance.

Even in that brief scene it seemed like he was struggling not to crack up.

IMO Band of Brothers is much, much, much better than The Pacific. And I enjoyed The Pacific. But it pales in comparison to BoB.

I agree. The pacific is a great show, but the subject matter of BoB is just so much more suited to being a human experience drama.

The scenery changes from Normandy to Austria. There is a more varied human experience where the lows of combat and mixed with incredible highs of liberating an actual European town or city and all the complex human emotions and reactions that surround that scene. There are interactions with hostile soldiers, scared/jubilant civilians, women, children, etc.

The pacific is just one meat grinder after another fought on otherwise empty islands. It’s just brutality and rest, brutality and rest.

For those interested there’s an official BoB podcast that came out in 2021 I think. Each episode has an actor or director or producer as a guest and they go over each episode.

My favorite is with Frank John Hughes who played Bill Guarnere.
