I’m sure every comedian wishes they were “cancelled” the way Shane Gillis was.
This is a flawed argument. Not everyone handles getting canceled the same. It’s not like it was easy for Gillis. Things could have gone many ways for him. He could have apologized and bought into what the world was saying about him. He is one of the few that did not apologize and give in to the people trying to cancel him. These are people that don’t even like stand up comedy. He is where he is today because of how he handled his firing at SNL.

sounds like a bunch of whining from PA's ... lower tier production people. With that kind of pressure and those kinds of hours it's not going to be fun most of the time. I have never heard a peep about Fallon's character and those things have a way of leaking out in the industry (i mean ellen was no secret going back a decade)
Nine showrunners in nine years is not normal though
Production is not fun at certain entry level positions - lower pay, getting lunches, etc. But it's where you start and there are some incredible moments. On my last project - i encouraged our Korean P.A. to greet our director (Park Chan Wook) in their native tongue on his first visit to our department. It was a cool moment for her.

My point is that the word cancelled is used constantly, often by publications fishing for clickbait. And it describes everything, to the point of the word losing meaning.
Other than people who faced actual criminal charges for their actions, like Cosby, Spacey, and Weinstein, who else has had a real cancellation?
Louis CK is one person, who is now pretty much self-releasing all of his stuff. He is still making lots of money and selling well, but he does actually appear to be blackballed from mainstream outlets.
James Franco’s career has really fallen off since his allegations.
Ellen DeGeneres wouldn’t count imo because she appeared to want to take her show off eventually, regardless. And she did her show for 2 more years after the bullying controversy before ending it in 2022.
There’s a difference between being cancelled and being a 64 year old worth hundreds of millions of dollars and not wanting to do a show every day.
Aziz may also fall into the category but he’s probably gotten more support than just about anyone who had an expose written about him, and he continues to regularly release his stuff on mainstream platforms.
As for Shane Gillis, I’m a fan of standup comedy in general, and I would say he was a no name until 2018. The stupid SNL controversy was the next year, but he kept performing and getting bigger.
This is mostly because he is a very good comedian and also because he has the right friends in comedy (Rogan and then people like Normand, Dan Soder, and Ari Shaffir).
I’m not sure if this is his first Netflix special but it’s certainly getting promoted and doing very well so far. I haven’t seen it yet.
The reason he has succeeded is because he’s good. So it shows the limits of cancelling when it is pretty much a 10 day press cycle story and not criminal activity.

Bring back Conan
10:30 audiences weren’t quite ready for his brand of humor yet and NBC cut his legs out by giving Leno a show at 9:00. That said, they should’ve stuck with him because he would’ve eventually killed it.
Late night is a relic though. It used to be a way to unwind after a long day and get a glimpse at the personality of celebrities. None of that is necessary now.

i think this is probably partly on Fallon. he just seems like he would be an erratic a-hole off camera. most of these late night tv host folks have had less than desirable personalities.
other part of this is people are getting soft. I'm sure some of these folks would take a disapproving look as the greatest slight they have ever received.

I don’t know anybody who still watches any of these late night shows.

Rolling Stone is reporting it. . .
So just like the "Gunshot/Ivermectin Overdoses" story and "Mattress Girl", I am going to assume this story is completely made up.

Late night tv died when Letterman hung it up.
Letterman was a bitter, old political hack when he retired. He hadn't been very funny for a long time at that point.
Ferguson was the last legitimate talk show star, but they screwed him to put another political hack in Letterman's place. Not surprisingly, that show sucks now.

Did Jimmy ruin his own hissy fits by laughing uncontrollably in the middle of them?

So NBC wants to get out of their contract with him, so the smear campaign has begun.

Gutfeld is crushing Fallon, Meyers, Colbert, etc

Really all these late night talk shows need to go away. All the jokes are old if you are using social media. You see them their hrs before it airs late at night.
As an aside, Craig Ferguson was last late night host I really enjoyed. Corden had his moments too. Kimmel, Fallon and Colbert (CBS version) are all interchangeable

Craig Ferguson was the best recently
Letterman was great in the 80s and early 90s but had to tone down his humor to get the 10:30 Late Show slot.
Conan has a niche but was unlikely to have the broad appeal of more traditional (and less creative) hosts

Working in Hollywood is taxing and hard and highly emotionally draining. More at 11.

Jack Paar, Johnny Carson, Jay Leno, Jimmy Fallon.
One of these is not like the other.

quote:I don't know any boomers that kept watching after Letterman, Craig Ferguson or Conan left. It's been terrible sine then.
Late night talk shows are a relic of a bygone era of television. Boomers keep them alive.
