EXCLUSIVE: Sixteen current and former staffers say Jimmy Fallon’s erratic behavior spoiled their “dream” of working on The Tonight Show.

“You never knew which Jimmy we were going to get and when he was going to throw a hissy fit.”

quote:

Former employees describe The Tonight Show as a “pretty glum atmosphere,” with some alleging they were belittled and intimidated by their bosses, including Jimmy Fallon himself.

"Mentally, I was in the lowest place of my life," a former employee said

quote:

Rolling Stone contacted more than 80 past and present Tonight Show employees during our reporting.

While many praised Fallon's comedic gifts, not a single one agreed to speak on the record or had positive things to say about working on The Tonight Show.

quote:

Former employees tell Rolling Stone that they've lost faith in the ever-changing leadership (nine showrunners in the past nine years).

"Nobody told Jimmy, ‘No.’ Everybody walked on eggshells, especially showrunners."

quote:

Staffers say that the show's revolving door of showrunners and Jimmy Fallon’s alleged behavior leave them pessimistic about the future of The Tonight Show.

"There are major changes that need to take place, starting with Jimmy,” a former employee says.

Late night tv died when Letterman hung it up.

This.

Late night talk shows are a relic of a bygone era of television. Boomers keep them alive.

Do you mean cancelled on TV or cancelled as in "cancel culture"?

Because you can't be cancelled for being an a-hole. At least, I hope that's not where we are in society. I guess it shouldn't surprise me.

I was pessimistic about the future of The Tonight Show before any of this information was revealed.

Wondering how much of this is the recent generations' need to work in a Candy Land environment where the bosses are always nice and everyone on staff is a treasured asset.

I'm no fan of Fallon, but word is that Sid Caesar, Carson, and Letterman, weren't the most likable bosses.

No doubt but 9 showrunners in 9 years? Is that normal?

"Cancel Culture" isn't a thing. It doesn't exist.

All I read were some millennials complaining about some job where they couldn't handle the pressure or not being babied.

Ellen went through this and seems to have pretty much faded away since she was accused of being an a-hole.

Late stage Letterman was embarrassingly bad. Stuck around 5+ years too long.
