Regardless of his actual thoughts.... you think Craig is going to say anything differently than this?

His race does not impact the story at all. This is true. But for the last 50 years he has been portrayed by white actors on screen. In the books the films are based on he was a white, British spy. Fleming based the character on himself - a white man.

It would be one thing if the franchise was first starting out. But we're almost 60 years into it and there is a lot of history and legacy there. The character should remain white. If you want a black actor playing a 00-agent, create a spinoff series. Let Elba play an aging 003 or 006. Henry Cavill should be the next 007.

So what?

Where was your outrage when Khan was played by Benedict Cumberbach?

Benedict Cumberbatch? I'm still pissed off at the casting of Ricardo Montalban as the original Khan. What sense does it make to cast a Spanish-Mexican actor to portray a character described as a Northern Indian Sikh?!

And by the way, do a quick Google search, there were more than a few people who claimed J.J. Abrams was whitewashing the role of Khan by casting Benedict Cumberbatch.

James Bond is like the one role where this is fine.

We've already gone down the path of "James Bond" being a moniker, and not a person (outside of Craig's run).

I'm a Dalton die hard as the best Bond in terms of the books, but the property is flexible enough to support a different take. But Elba is now too hold. I was behind this 6-7 years ago.

So make it Eijiofor and let's do this.

This honestly wouldn’t bother me at all. But I do t know anything about the books either.

If it’s a good movie, it’s a good movie. I think the character of Bond has evolved to “any decent actor who could pull it off” status.

Plus (without sounding so hippie dippy) I think we’ve evolved as a society that it wouldn’t be a distraction. How much hoopla was there over Elba playing Heimdall? Did we all get over that?

Back in the 90’s, I remember seeing an Asian girl playing Cosette in Les Mis and it was distracting me the entire show. Now you see all kinds of races on the stage and no one gives a damn.

I just don't see how James Bond's race impacts his story in any way.

I mean, if we are allowing Bond to perpetually stay in his 30s/40s from rotary phones to cell phones, stupid to draw the line on race

My problem with Elba isn’t his race, it’s his age. He would be 50 by the time his Bond move came out. Craig is already getting close to pushing the ceiling when it comes to age.

Don’t care about the race, I just want to see a good Bond movie. This isn’t the case with Elba but don’t get a black Bond just to get a black guy. Do it because the actor is the best option for the roll. Of course Bond producers are known to overreact to the times so I’m sure they saw the Black Panther numbers and wanted to mimic that.

It wouldn't at all surprise me if Elba is a red herring here and they go with a younger British actor that's a little less known who can carry the series for longer. Like a Michael Obiora type.

I think Elba would make a fantastic Bond, but he's not my first choice. If they want to nail the "book Bond", then the obvious choice is Tom Hiddleston. He would easily be the closest to Flemming's Bond since Connery.

This is the drawing of Bond that Ian Flemming himself had commissioned:

I mean, come on. Dude is perfect for Bond and he's only 37.

Im interested in how you stereotype Middle Easterners to look?

So a middle eastern like King Abdullah of Jordan?

or perhaps Bashar Al-Asad of syria?

Perhaps you are talking about israeli Reuven Rivlin

You racist shitlord

ETA as to the topic at hand Idris Elba would be a cool bond but I also think hes earned it by his own merits not because "its time". By saying that "its time" it demeans anyone who gets the role

Idris Elba will be way too old by the time it's his time to shine. He's already 46 years old and Bond 25 isn't releasing until the end of next year. By the time Bond 26 is released in 2022, he'll be 50.

Sean Connery was 31 when he was cast, George Lazenby was 29, Timothy Dalton was 40, Pierce Brosnan was 41, and Daniel Craig was 37. Roger Moore was the oldest of the Bond actors when he was cast at the age of 45.

If that's what we want then Tom Hiddleston is the obvious choice. He's a facial scar away from being almost the exact description that Fleming wrote

Or maybe Michael Fassbender.

It's not that Elba can't be a credible double ought with great screen presence; he can. He can't be James Bond. If the franchise is moved in that direction it is being done because of color of skin and reasons of social justice.
