Wouldn't this be an example of cultural appropriation? Are they going to cast Kate Winslet in the next Rosa Parks biopic? But I do like Elba as an actor.

When did Rosa Parks become a fictional character?

Well, that right there is good evidence that Bond can be shaped to available talent.

Sure...so long as it's shaped by the character's creator. But he's no longer with us so I'm afraid that isn't possible.

I really hope Idris gets it. He is a fantastic actor and could carry it off. Plus, trumptards would melt over it and it would be hysterical.

Agreed.

But he's too old.

In fact, Idris Elba came out two years ago AGAINST playing Bond due to his age:

quote:

Idris Elba has dismissed speculation that he will play James Bond - but not because of his race.

The actor said that was actually his age that prevented him from playing 007.

Mr Elba, 43, said he was "too old for that" and said that it would be inappropriate for him to be going after women like Bond does.

He also said that he would not look good doing car chases because of his advancing years - and did not want to drink martinis on screen.

I remember when Daniel Craig was cast as Bond all of the Bond fanboys lost their shite because he had blonde hair. Part of me wants to see what happens when those same fanboys find out a black guy is playing Bond.

It sounds like you want him to get it more based on his skin color and your mental construct of it pissing off a certain group in your mind rather than just making a good movie

And besides, as a previous poster has said, James Bond is not a title. He's a white man from Scotland. 007 is his code name.

Lol. James Bond is like Mad Max. Before Craig, continuity didn’t mean shite in these movies. Besides references to his dead wife and Blofeld, most of the films were self contained stories and it sometimes nearly reset with each Bond that was cast except when Moore Bond film referenced the marriage Lazenby Bond had.

Elba would be fine as Bond, they just need to start filming it sooner rather than later.

Am I the only one who missed the deadline wife reference in the Craig films? When did they talk about it?

From Russia With Love was a direct sequel to Dr. No and Diamonds Are Forever was a direct sequel to On Her Majesty's Secret Service.

There were two references to Bond's previous marriage in the Moore era: One in The Spy Who Loved Me when Agent XXX mentions it while reciting Bond's bio and another in For Your Eyes Only when he actually visits Tracy's grave.

There was also a reference to Bond's marriage in License to Kill when Felix Leiter tells his new wife that Timothy Dalton's Bond had been married once.

And then in The World is Not Enough, Elektra King asks Pierce Brosnan's Bond if he ever lost a loved one. Bond hesitates for a moment and then brushes off the question.

It sounds like you can't read. Idris would be a great choice regardless of skin color. As an added bonus, a bunch of white national frickoffs would get all pissy about it. And it would be fun to laugh at them.

There’s only one film that literally has him visiting the grave. Everything else is just an Easter egg reference.

Actually would be about this. Not because "its time" or some other bullshite affirmative action reason progressives will use to virtue signal over this film. Idris Elba is a great actor and I think he could pull off the role pretty well. Shame if it happens the media will completely overlook his talent and focus solely on him being "Black Bond", I think he deserves more credit than that.

I am all for him getting the part he would make a great bond but I did just see a recent picture of him and he looks like he is every bit of his age.

Roger Moore was 57 years old when he made A View to a Kill.

And that was his last James Bond film. He almost didn't make A View to a Kill because HE thought HE was too old for the role. Idris Elba will be 50 making his first Bond movie. A View to a Kill was Moore's seventh.

Well yeah 50 is too old and doesn't even make sense.

In the books, mandatory retirement from the 00 section is 45.

Bond is 37 years old in the books.

45 retirement as an agent seems quite young by today's standards.

So the 00 section is supposed to be young bucks which is why he's also such a Playboy.
