Quit watching after 4 episodes, it didn’t hold my interest at all

Should I give it another shot?

Yes. I’m pretty sure I just started in season 2 when I watched it

It's a message board. If you're a working adult (or have a family) chances are you're limited in the content you can view. Nothing wrong with asking others if it gets better. And if you've been around here enough, you know who is probably reliable (in terms of similar interest) to get that advice from.

Thats nice but the rest of this thread after your post proved my original point. Lol

Honestly P&R finds it groove in season 2 when they have way more Andy and Ron.

I think a lot of ensemble shows take a season to really figure out what works and who needs more screen time. What aspects of each character to exaggerate.

I love community. I tjink Season 2 and 3 are the best. It really evolves or devolves into something really off the wall and funny.

One of these is not like the other. It’s okay to not like good sitcoms. You don’t need to insult the people who do though. Its not some character flaw to see potential in a show even if it’s not all the way there and keep watching.

I like it but to win that many awards it should be one of the best of all time and its certainly not that. Copied the premise of Arrested Development (rich people lose their money and must cope w/ everyday life) but didn't do it nearly as well. Just not laugh out loud funny like AD.

WTF are you talking about? Saying I don't have time to waste or patience for something isn't insulting anyone. Go watch your sucky shows and lighten the frick up.

Beware of "comedies" loved by critics. They usually aren't funny.

And Schitt's Creek was totally ignored by critics for its first 3 seasons. It survived on a small, devoted fanbase absolutely loving it, along with Netflix rewatches that suggested a huge word of mouth spread.

Its metacritic score is inflated by the one season 6 review on there. All the 2015 reviews basically call it pleasant mediocrity.

On RT, the first season has a 64%, and is the only season of the first 3 that has more than 6 critic reviews. Reviews amp up at season 4.

No emmy nominations until it got 3 (with no wins) after season 5.

So, its critical reappraisal is uncommon. Its Emmy success after being all but ignored is uncommon. People making generalizations about a show based on nothing because theyre killjoys and that show is enjoying a brief moment in the sun is sadly common.

It's good, but it's not "sweep all the awards" good.

Yes you should. Watch episode one, then skip to Rock Show, then skip to season 2.

My take exactly. And in a loaded year, its a shame that some other shows couldn't get some love, particularly the last season of The Good Place, which I'm willing to argue is one of the best sitcoms ever made.

I view Schitt's Creek as a silly distraction. Which is good, I like silly distractions. But the sudden praise is out of proportion to a fairly lightweight, though funny, show.

Silly is the perfect word for it. It's a comedy sketch with enough depth to the characters to make an actual show out of, but it's still an over the top comedy sketch at heart. I think the praise is partly due to being a "self made indie success" of sorts and people feeling it should have been recognized sooner.

Except, it doesn't.

For example, Mad Men for me didn't really hit hard until later in the first season. It's still one of the best TV shows I've ever watched and I'll argue the episode The Suitcase may be one of the best episodes written for TV. I kept watching because like-minded people I know were like "hang in there, it's fantastic".

There's literally nothing wrong with asking people if it gets better after X episodes. Just like I'd tell people to be prepared if a show falls off a fricking ledge after X season.

Again, it's a message board. I'd also argue you should have the free will to just not click on the thread if you don't want to be burdened with the question.

Good Place and Schitts Creek are two very similar shows. I do think Good Place should have took home some awards

Yeah there's definitely truth here. I really like the show and saw it before "the hype". It may be getting overhyped now.

But it is a funny, silly, heartwarming show. I've compared it to a heartwarming Curb Your Enthusiasm at times.

It is nothing that is going to change your life. But it will make you smile and laugh, and feel good.

That pretty much sums it up. It's not really ground breaking TV. It's a simple premise, albeit with a ridiculous origin story, that thrives on good actors doing their character roles extremely well with heartwarming stories.

Someone mentioned a comparison to Arrested Development, and I think the similarities end with them being dysfunctional families. There is a lot of love in the Rose family, despite their dysfunction, that isn't there with the Bluths.

Right, and I sort of compared it to a likeable, feel good heartwarming Curb Your Enthusiasm, because Levy is put in some extremely awkward positions in the show, but it comes out warm...not like Larry David

It's pretty solid but it's basically Catherine O'Hara doing 90% of the funny stuff. She is so good it kind of makes everyone else seem crappy in comparison.

I basically feel the exact opposite. Not that Catherine O'Hara didn't have her moments, but I think she got totally outshined by the rest of the cast, especially Dan Levy and Annie Murphy.
