In terms of significance and its place in the story it is a part of, I agree.
It's actually better than Empire, internet groupthink notwithstanding, as it has far better dialogue and less soap opera formulas.
I saw Endgame in the theater, and the atmosphere was very much like RotJ. Like in 1983, when I walked out, I could hear kids all over the place talking about the ending and wondering what possible other movies could come next, even though the main story was over.

No...Marvel is the Globetrotters. they are genuinely talented basketball players. But they arent a good team and are strictly there to "entertain".

The MCU has put out some good content to be sure, but I find most of the movies in the series to be between mediocre and decent.
Iron Man (good movie)
The Incredible Hulk (mediocre movie)
Iron Man 2 (mediocre movie)
Thor (decent movie)
Captain American: The First Adventure (decent movie)
The Avengers (good movie)
Iron Man 3 (mediocre movie)
Thor: The Dark World (bad movie)
Captain America: The Winter Soldier (good movie)
Guardians of the Galaxy (good movie)
The Avengers: Age of Ultron (mediocre movie)
Ant-Man (decent movie)
Captain America: Civil War (decent movie)
Doctor Strange (mediocre movie)
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (mediocre movie)
Spider-Man: Homecoming (good movie)
Thor: Ragnarok (decent movie)
Black Panther (mediocre movie)
Avengers: Infinity War (decent movie)
Ant-Man and the Wasp (mediocre movie)
Captain Marvel (haven't seen)
Avengers: Endgame (good movie)
Spider-Man: Far From Home (decent movie)
Iron Man (good movie)
The Incredible Hulk (mediocre movie)
Iron Man 2 (mediocre movie)
Thor (decent movie)

I don’t know about that, but Thor: Ragnarok is this generation’s Raiders of the Lost Arc
Are you serious? Ragnarok was one of the weaker Marvel movies. Enjoyable, but a terrible Thor movie. The CGI looked like a Hanna-Barbera production. And they turned turned Thor into alternatively a whimpering 12-year old girl and a wise-cracking character from a Hope/Crosby road picture.
Raiders is a timeless classic.

I'd much rather watch Infinity War right now than Empire Strikes Back.

IW had one of the best scenes in any movie of all time, in my opinion. Thor arriving in Wakanda was amazing.

You might be the first person I've seen that would even suggest that Endgame was a better movie than Infinity War.

I would think the Scarlett Witch/Vision subplot is about as soap opera as it gets.
Dialogue is weird and we have no idea how it will age. The banter follows the Whedon model, which is really fun, but it is far from natural. In 40 years, without immediately being able to locate its reference point, Infinity War's dialogue might sound like a joke the way many pre-1965 movies sound to many of us.
I'm not defending Empire's dialogue. Lucas had no idea how to direct actors. I guess Kershner didn't want to upset continuity by making the dialogue more natural.

Endgame had the better climax and Tony Stark's big moment was the best scene in the entire MCU by far.

Why is that considered "edgy"?

Or to put it in sports terms - Marvel films are not the Lions or the Dolphins, they also aren't the Chiefs.
They are the 1994-1995 Houston Rockets. Champions when there was nothing better.

Do you really think anyone will be watching Infinity War in 20 years? With the amount of CGI these films have, they age like milk.

Because Ragnorok is one of the best marvel movies and no where near the weakest

You can’t compare IW to Empire.
But I would say that in fandom Marvel has either replaced Star Wars for a subset of older Star Wars fans - especially those who came up reading comic books - and kids/young adults will certainly identify with the MCU as older generations identified with Star Wars.

I dunno. Everyone knew the snap wasn’t permanent.
My sister was dating a real moron at the time.
I happened to be in town and a bunch of us went to Ant Man and the Wasp. We were eating afterwards and he started talking about how he didn't understand why Marvel was ending their movies in such a horrible way. Infinity War and then AMATW. He was kind of depressed about it.
Somehow he managed to go to both of those movies not knowing that Infinity War was a two parter. He was admittedly an idiot, but he got to have the full impact of those movies that the rest of us didn't.

Wrong again.
Objectively speaking, Marvel movies are well-made films that do exactly what they set out to do in a relatively high quality way. That doesn't mean they are perfect, or that there aren't loads of films better, but judged against the general idea of "film," they are successful.
Marvel films fit very nicely in the action/sci-fi hybrid film genre and are some of the best in that group. Again, this doesn't mean they are Godfather or Goodfellas. I'd argue, like blueboy said, they are very comparable to Star Wars, especially now. But that also doesn't mean that IW will have the impact of Empire. It won't.
