My issue with superhero movies is best highlighted by Superman. They just are shitty vehicles for a story. The only way to create real conflict with godlike beings is to just willy nilly forget things you've established or just lazily establish new things.

Actually the most consistent thing that's been established with Superman for decades without end is the constant limits Superman places on himself and how he constantly fights down to his opponents level even though he doesn't have to.

He's often said he feels like he lives in a world made of cardboard and that is a feeling and limit he happily and humbly embraces because character and personality wise, Superman or rather Clark Kent is the most human and most American out of all the comic book characters there is and he truly cares about his neighbors, friends and family.

It's been 75+ years and people still don't get Superman and why he's the greatest comic book hero here there is. Amazing.

And it was fairly obvious Han wasn’t dead. I mean, they make a point to say he’s fine after he gets frozen. It’s ok that someone compared a modern movie to your precious Empire, Gen X scum.
I’m pretty positive I’m a stand in for a good 60-65% percent of users on this site as a millennial who hates millennials, sir.

Also, while I definitely like ESB, it’s by no means precious to me. Just thought I’d skewer some snowflakes, and it looks like my work is done.

The tone you two (or 3) are employing to argue about superhero movies suggests yes.

There’s like 3-5 years separating those 2 events. That is a “generation” now?

You don't say "They aren't good, they are average," you insinuate that they are so far from good that anyone who thinks they are good has intelligence issues.

Yeah, I'd read that as bad.

Unless you have an extremely narrow view of what "good" is - like maybe only "Real stories about real people with incredible acting unparalleled directing, etc. - and that only a few things fit in that bucket. That's the only way your comment makes sense.

Airplane! is a stupid movie with a stupid plot, a lot of bad acting, a lot completely unreal situations. But It's, again at the very least, a good movie. It's actually pretty great.

Star Wars- fairly ridiculous movie with a pretty pedestrian script, some bad acting, some bad effects, but it's at the very least, a good movie.

Captain America Winter Soldier is a tight action-spy film with some decent acting, great set and action pieces, and a solid hero and villain. It is also, at the very least, a good movie.

Well then you are having an argument with yourself, not me.

Ill be this simpleton you are describing just to move this along. Sure, a well written script, with well developed characters, good acting and directing, and a nice story arc are hallmarks of a good movie. I think "Bad guy go boom boom" can be fun and therefor succeed at its goal. I also think Bad Guy Go Boom Boom can find its way into "good movie" territory if it meets all the criteria.

That might be because the number of people complaining about lack of originality are a small but vocal minority. From what I have observed, the vast majority of people gravitate toward things they are familiar with. Comic book films make money because people want to see them.

I'll be glad when this shelter in place crap is over and fast food opens up again. That way all you fricks can go back to work and quit spending all your waking moments over analyzing everything.

Did you enjoy the movie? If yes it was good. If no, then it wasn't

Star Wars is the most overrated cinematic universe in history. Only like 2/9 movies are any good.

Just because your brain cant deal with even the slightest amounts of complexity doesnt mean the rest of us have to think on Sesame Street levels of brain power.

I agree, Infinity War and Endgame are the 2 biggest movie events of my entire lifetime. Nothing comes close. Some of the most fun I have ever had in a movie theater were these 2 movies.

Then again, I wasnt alive in the 70s and Im not a star wars fan so i couldnt begin to objectively compare the 2 franchises.
