I'll say it again... Rogue One is a great movie.

Amazing well done story and it's a beautiful movie to look at. The best looking and most well done CGI by far in the Star Wars universe... one of the top CGI movies ever maybe.
Damn good stand alone movie.
The Commander and Leia were pretty bad... I'll certainly say that. Bet they would do an amazing job now with this new tech. It's so good, it doesn't trigger the uncanny valley effect now.
Would be cool to see what they could do now. Edit it in.

I watched it last week. Its definitely the best of the Disney Star Wars movies.

It's decent. Like the above poster said it's by the best of the disney star wars movies but that's not saying much. I like the movie just fine but I won't go out of my way to see it again.

Absolutely love this movie. It’s in my top 10 of favorite movies from the 2010’s alongside flicks like Interstellar, 21 Jump Street, and Scott Pilgrim vs The World.

I think the action sequences in the movie are top notch. Fantastic really.
Story amazing and well done though? Definitely not.

The great thing about it as compared to the sequel trilogy is that it connects to the Star Wars Saga without undermining the story that has already been told.

Every min is worth watching for the Vader scene at the end.
By far my favorite Star Wars scene ever.

agreed, it didnt feel like a star wars movie at all, even with all the story connections.
but it was great as a stand alone movie about the same world star wars is about

The Vader sequence at the end was awesome. That is what I remember most about the movie.

It's good. Probably the most overrated movie on this board. Crowded field of forgettable characters, another plot focused on the Death Star, odd pacing with side quests, and Tarkin CGI is horrible. The worst thing about it is the edning where Vader simply needs to use the force to know one of the rebels has the plans (surely Rey would have no problem doing this) and get it back or simply quit showing off by force lifting those dudes and strangling them and he gets the disc and it's the end of the franchise. They couldn't create compelling villains so they take the easy way of CGI Tarkin and Vader.

it’s a really good movie, it’s also very heavy for a star wars movie.
like objectively it’s good and interesting and has great plot and action.
Tone for me was too heavy.

Glad to see this opinion becoming more popular. I felt this way since it released and people shite on me about it a lot lol. I also enjoyed Solo

I don't think it's great. It has a lot of flaws.
But it is a love letter to the Original Trilogy, so I like it.

For all the hate Star Wars gets these days, it's not talked about enough that both Rogue One and Solo were really good standalone movies.
It's just that they were the victim of such a shitty sequel trilogy that soured everyone on the brand.

I'll add that the Andor prequel series is even better.
Tony Gilroy created Andor and he's the one who came in and rescued Rogue One after Gareth Edwards was reportedly kicked off the project before reshoots. The Vader scene at the end of Rogue One was all Gilroy.

Rogue One is one of the best sci fi films of the 2000's, period. They should have given Gareth Edwards the new trilogy

It's good, not great, but yep. Pretty much agree.

Eh, I don't think so. The Creator was beautiful but still an awful movie. And all reports at the time were that Tony Gilroy saved Rogue One.
quote:
The general consensus was that Edwards had shot cheesy dialogue, failed to spot the obvious opportunities to make a wonderfully gloomy Star Wars’ equivalent of Blake’s 7 (because pretty much everybody important dies at the end) and generally disappointed Lucasfilm so badly that they felt the need for major reshoots and a new hand on the writer-director helm.
Both Tony Gilroy and his brother John, who helped edit the eventual film, have been vocal about what happened. John told The Playlist: “The basic plan was very simple. They had the movie that they had and they called Tony in, and Tony huddled for a while with another editor – who was on already, Colin Goudie – and used a lot of the things he had discovered when we were working together, and basically made a new story. It was quite a different story. They convinced Disney to invest in that story, which was a sizeable investment in time and money, and then it was just realising what that was. So, it’s a new plan – you’re not just going in and experimenting. We had a new blueprint.”
In 2018, Tony Gilroy told The Moment With Brian Koppelman podcast that Rogue One was in “terrible trouble” when he was called in. “If you look at Rogue, all the difficulty with Rogue, all the confusion of it … and all the mess, and in the end when you get in there, it’s actually very, very simple to solve,” he said. “Because you sort of go, ‘This is a movie where everyone is going to die.’ So it’s a movie about sacrifice.
“I came in after the director’s cut,” said Gilroy. “They were in such a swamp, in so much terrible, terrible trouble that all you could do was improve their position.”

Solo was a fun space adventure, which is what Star Wars is supposed to be.
