I mean...she did that on purpose. She could have easily have cleaned herself up at the lake they were camped by but instead chose to strut into camp covered in blood. She didn't do that because she wanted to appear like a bad arse to the entire royal court. It was a power move by her.

From what I've read Carax is a rather large dragon. He's just very long and snakelike, unlike all the others we've seen. I can't wait until Vhagar makes an appearance. She supposed to be the second biggest dragon to ever live. Second to only Balerion.

This show is missing a Tyrion Lannister. It's getting to be a soap opera/drama and the dialogue is lacking.

It also feels relatively small compared to GOT. What I mean by that is we've been introduced to relatively few characters. Maybe it's due to the face that ASOIF is written from multiple perspectives. I'm not sure how the source material for this was written, but by Episode 3 of GOT, we've been introduced to:

Ned
Catlyn
Rob
Jon
Sansa
Arya
Bran
King Robert
Cersei
Jamie
Joffrey
Tyrion
Tywin
Little Finger
Varys
Jorah
Daenerys
Viserys
Kal Drogo

At this point in HOtD we've really only seen significant dialogue from:

Viserys
Alicent
Rhaenyra
Daemon
Otto
Corlys
Criston Cole

As we do time jumps, the cast will expand a fair amount I believe. Especially when offspring factor in.

There was a point to how each killed their animals. Viserys didn't really want to do it. It's symbolizing the entire realm influencing him to name his son as the heir against his will. He ultimately does have a choice, but he's too weak to not let the other lords force his hand.

Rhaenyra had to kill the boar to survive. Well, I guess it was pretty much dead, but she didn't realize that. That and the White Hart seeking her out while others hunted it just shows that she needs to do what's best for her future and survival. Also, as others have said, walking back to camp with a dead boar is a way to show the others that she isn't some weak girl that can be married off.

To add to that, also thought it was another nice throwback to GOT and in this case Robert Baratheon.

There is a character like him in the book but he’s also a dwarf so they didn’t want him in this show because of how similar it is.

All in all, I think people need to stop comparing everything in HOD to GOT. It’s a different show/story and probably won’t be as good as GOT’s peak but will still be awesome.

That was a solid episode. Great performance by Matt Smith without speaking a word. I'm sure now he'll have a warriors reputation in Westeros even the Sea Snakes men respected his charge.

I find the dialogue a little lacking, but the show is improving week to week. Episode 3 really grabbed me and got me invested in this series. I agree that this show is really missing a snarky comic relief character. Just a couple mild gallows humor quips here and there would really improve the dialogue. Too much would suck, but a little bit would go a long way. GOT had great comedic lines from the Hound, Tormund, Tyrion, Bron, and even Jamie at times.

This series could definitely use a little humor somewhere.

Targaryens and Valryons had purple eyes in the books. Not everything had to be 100%.

Spoiler-free Episode 3 breakdown from Riley McAtee of The Ringer

As mentioned in the Episode 2 thread, these breakdowns add a lot of background information on characters and family histories from the books.

She should have strutted in with that white deer. That was supposed to be a prophecy for Aegon's name day. Yet the deer they caught was a brown one. Showing the prophecy was unfilled. Had she strutted in with the "white heart" it would have earned her more respect.

She should have ridden in on the back of the White Heart, covered in blood, dragging the boar.

And asked Jason Lannister to field dress it for her after fetching her some of that fine wine.

i'm aware of that LOL. it wasn't very subtle imagery which i just found to be a little humorous that's all. my only complaint thus far is related to this...the time jumps put the storytelling in a little bit of a rush, theres no time for nuance. thus the obvious beat-you-over-the-head setpieces and the forced info-dump dialog (the scene with the old ladies at the hunt, for example). they have to catch the story up to the time jump so that they can get to the next one.

likely due to not having detailed source material. They’re probably afraid to stray or add too much out of fear of repeating GOT’s issues.

It probably won’t seem as abrupt once they have more moving pieces in the story.

Word of advice, if you are expecting the same breadth and depth from the story built around the lore GRRM wrote to supplement his 3 decade magnum opus, I feel you are setting yourself up for disappointment for this or any future ASOIAF story.

And man, I hope they never adapt Dunk and Egg, I can’t imagine how much people will be whining about how everything feels so much smaller and lower stakes…

This part of the story, at its core, is a palace intrigue show and the overall work is about one family. Expecting the sprawling epic of the GoT is misplacing expectations.

I read somewhere that there’s a ten year time jump this season. Hopefully after that things settle down. It’s hard to give any of the “important” events so far any credence because by the next episode they’ve all already moved on. We don’t get to see any immediate consequences.

Now that Crabfeeder has been dealt with who steps in to fill the void of next bad guy to contend with? Will all future threats to rule come from different Targ factions? Any more "Triarchy"?

For a king who has been described as weak he sure seems to have a good grip on the realm. I guess dragons have that effect.
