yeah he was white in the books but the actor is good and his role has been solid. i pity the people that cant get over that.

It’s more of a continuity thing than oh I hate him since he is black. I guess in the 170 years between this and GOT the realm went full on racist and killed off all the mixed race houses. Also the wigs look ridiculous since we all know dark skin doesn’t come with naturally blond hair it just feels so out of place it takes away from the story for me. Thankfully this cast can act a hell of allot better than the black woman that played the inquisitor in Obi-wan.

I don't really care about the corn rows and braids on the men. It looks like normal hair just dyed. However, I had a big problem with Laena Valaryon's hair. She looked like an 18th century French aristocrat with a giant, ridiculous wig. That isn't really a black thing. I would have had a problem with any child actor with a bad wig like that.

Wasn't that Ser Cristin Cole (sp?)

No, that was the guy who beat Daemon. Before that, Daemon defeats 2 Baratheons. I think we see only one of those fights, though.

Footnote: Also, people didn't hack each other to pieces in the tourney melees. I don't know why the hell the show chose to do that.

That scene was ridiculous. Melees could be violent and deaths did occur but the end goal of them was to capture enemy combatants and receive a ransom. This is how knights made money they needed to improve their station aside from plunder received during war. They would never just pointlessly kill each since other not only would they gain nothing from it but this would create blood feuds and destabilize the realm.

Also Daemon striking his opponent's horse would have been seen as shameful and he likely would have had to forfeit the contest.

Directors knew some good violent scenes in the beginning would hook in the viewers. Throw in a couple sets of tits, dragons, and voila you reeled the GOT viewers back in.

They explained it away as bored knights who have never been in battle. It was quite ridiculous but fun to watch

Y'all are picking apart tournament protocols and hair styles in a world where dragons exist. It's called fantasy. Enjoy it it for what it is.

hat was what a royal hunting party was meant to look like. Martin himself said that the one in GoT failed to come close to capture what they really are like and this one righted that wrong

you can really tell that GRRM is more hands on, the tracking shot of the king's buffet was a dead give away

Nobody has hair that looks like that lol They all look weird to me except Dany. She's the only one that really could pull it off imo.

Even beyond this show, I think that’s such a flaw we have today when it comes to watching shows with the internet/social media in such easy access.

We’ve developed a mentality where everything HAS to be picked apart to a carcass before we’re satisfied. It’s a little sad honestly.

I’ve enjoyed the show so much that I decided to pick up the book it’s based on. I’ve already read past where the show is currently at and I’m really intrigued on how this shite gets portrayed.

Could be epic.

And like I pointed out in the ROP thread, if you want to play the game where you logic and science everything to death based on current day science, you are inevitably going to reach a point where you have to make rationalizations, leaps of logic, and ignoring the science to justify what is on the page/screen.

Black people in this world can have white blonde hair, cool, add it to the pile. Targaryen's have purple eyes, dragons exist, the undead can rise back up, and generations of incest has by and large not produced ghastly looking men and women. All things that wouldn't hold up to real-world scrutiny either.

it's a fantastic book. my only gripe is why the fat man wrote that before finishing the GOT series.

Not sure about the Rhaenyra swap but I will say the Alicent swap will be pretty seamless. I would swear the girl playing her now is just a young version of Olivia Cooke. Cooke is a pretty good actress too so that should be fine.

I could be wrong, but my guess is GRRM already had the outline for the book all written as he wrote the main story. It was probably to help keep all of his history in line. So, it's a lot easier to just complete that piece of literature instead of tackling a story he has no idea how to finish.

I'm with you on that skepticism.

Goes to show how much seeing a performance can change your opinion.

In all the previews and trailers I thought the older actress looked much more comfortable in the role and the young Rhaenyra looked a bit stiff and lacking personality. Now I wonder if the previews I saw with the older actress being more emotive is going to feel out of place with the sort of stoic, calculating, and dry wit qualities this actress brings to the character that works so well.

Hope not, but do wonder if this will be another Octavian from Rome situation. Where the younger actor owned the role so well, and while the replacement wasn't bad, it felt like a completely different character.

He really painted himself into a corner by the end of the last book, so I can understand why it would take some time to undo the Meereenese Knot. That said, it still shouldn't be taking this man a decade + to pump out 1 singular book, with no hope remaining for the final book.

Hoping all his work with HoTD gives him a renewal of creative energy and he starts chopping through Winds of Winter and A Dream of Spring.

Off topic but I want a House of the Flayed Man show where we get the rise of the Boltons and the Dreadfort.

My irrational hope is that untying the Meereeneese Knot is the great hurdle and that once he can get past that the rest should come a bit quicker since he has an outline of where he wants the end to go....but that is probably VERY irrational hope.
