Often happens in geriatric IVF when multiple embryos are implanted to increase odds that at least one will grow to term. Under 35 no more than 2 are generally implanted - over 40 the number can be 4 to 5 with each attempt. It also increases the chances of twins, triplets, etc.

That's irresponsible for a woman that old that have kids. The chances of birth defects for women in their 40s is actually higher than babies born of incest.

This was my initial thought was as well. However, I think given her socio-economic status, that she probably has a team of docs handling this. She isn't exactly some West Virginia coal miner......

Does it really come down to one rate being higher than another? It is still uncommon, right?

What rate is the correct rate?

In most IVF cases, especially those with older parents, genetic testing is done on the embryos before transfer.

Twins is usually a sign of fertility drugs.

Octomom

I had a friend and they couldn't get pregnant.

Fertility drugs and boom, twins.

Having kids when you’re older does increase the risk of problems, so don’t trash him completely. I hope all the kids are healthy and become superstars.

I don’t know exactly the numbers cuz I’m getting old and don’t remember. But it’s like starting at 35 the chances of a birth defect go up 5% or something every year until 45 where it kinda plateaus.

Most downs children are born to women over 35.

It’s a thing. Get your wife pregnant after 35. The Gyno will sit you both down and have a talk about it.
