Sure they left stuff out, but the only part that actually bothered me was when he threw the elder wand away. That goes against everything that Harry was built up to be. Yes he was good, but he had a dark desire to be the best and most powerful.

No Harry didn't. He wanted to be normal. In the books he put the wand back in Dumbledore's grave with only Hermione and Ron knowing. In his conversations with Dumbledore, Albus revealed he couldn't handle power as well. So that is why he didn't pursue Minister of Magic. He said Harry is a greater wizard than him because Harry doesn't seek out nor want to be most powerful. Hell, he didn't dream or want a final fight with Voldemort. He wanted him to die, and knew it had to be him, but he never once tried to actually kill, just disarm. Harry was willing to walk into death without any fight at all. That's not the trait of someone who wants to be the best and most powerful. Which is what made him different from Voldemort and why he was sorted into Gryffindor and not Slytherin

Was just talking about Adam Driver in the other thread about him possibly being Reed Richards and it made me think about him as Snape again. The movies made Snape, Lily, and The Marauders way too old as James and Lily got married around 19 and had Harry around age 20. Yet, everyone from their class that was just mentioned looked upper 40's and or 50s. I hope we get some younger actors playing these roles.

I might be misremembering but didn’t Rowling want only British actors cast for the movies? I wonder if she will want that for the TV show?

Thinking about the Hermione race swap. One way around the mudblood thing is to have one of Draco’s friends be a black pure blood and join in on the demeaning of her. Might take some of the perceived real world racism off of it.

ETA: I think the race swap of Hermione is bad idea that is going to have some unintended consequences.

How did the X-men (mainly cartoons) pull this off? They had the same sort of metaphor for racism but nobody ever thought people were being shitty to storm because of her race. You know there will be clown world Twitter warriors that will shite bricks if a black Hermione is called a mudblood even though it refers to her magical lineage.

correct. Robin Williams wanted to play Hagrid and she said no.

Are you implying that the same cultural scholars who thought the "OK" sign was racist will miss the point with a race-swapped Hermione???

Yeah that was something that always bothered me too. Of course it ended up working out because Rickman and Oldman, two fantastic actors, got to play Snape and Sirius. But part of the heart breaking nature of the series, especially towards the end when Harry summons his parents, Sirius and Lupin with the Resurrection Stone, is to see just how young they all still were when they died, especially his parents. They’re not but 2-3 years older than Harry when they died and he’s about to go off and die at practically the same age.

Even if they don’t get actors in their 20s, they should at least get actors in their early 30s for the Marauders and Snape. Rickman was 54 when they filmed the first movie. Oldman was 47 when they filmed the third movie. Thewlis was 42 when he played Lupin.

I know HBO is rebranding streaming to the Max label, so is "Max" now flagship stuff?

Previously I assumed any show under the label of Max was HBO's minor league stuff (and I think that at least was the case at some point).

The only difference is this story is finished. She won't be writing and changing things as it goes along. The set storyline is what made GoT so great for the start of the series and the deviation (among other things) was part of what led to the disappointing end. Having the story finalized makes a huge difference.

If the series had come out 5-10 years ago, the movies never would have been made.

Hard to believe but the last movie came out 12 years ago.
