We have seen this spiral all over the area north of the wall, including in the 1st episode (season 1) and now again last night.

Does anyone know anything about the spiral or its significance with the Night king.

Part of me thinks it has something to do with a god wood tree, but I might be just making that up in my head.

THoughts?

It’s connected with the Children of the Forest. This is where the Night’s King was created by them:

It doesn’t really mean anything, the Night King just likes the design.

I'm wondering if it was the sigil of the House he was in before he became the Night King (a House no longer in existance).

It’s the tree man. If anything it was a symbol of the Children of the Forest that was hijacked by the Night’s King.

It is carried over from the children of the Forrest who created the night king.

Best guess out there is that it is a symbol of their religion

The night king was created in that pattern. That is their creation.

Youre probably correct. Either way if it is a message or sybolizng something, D&D probably arent going to spend much time telling us or explaining.

They definitely have their work cut out for them just tying all these story lines up in a grand ending.

Basically the answer currently is that we dont know yet.

I hope that we see something about the NK motivations and what he really wants. I dont think its as simple as he is just evil and wants to kill everyone. There is intelligence with the NK.

I find it really unfortunate that they took so long with so much bullshite and probably won't get any real insight into NK, or the WW, which could easily have been one of the most interesting parts of the whole story.

I disagree. There is a message here for certain, and it has something to do with the COTF. Not only did they create spirals, they did so with leaving specifically children nailed to the wall or trees (S1E1). As that article someone linked points out, these symbols are indeed those used by the COTF.

The WWs are sending a message. It appears to me to be either one of disdain for the COTF, or they are avenging what the kingdoms did to the them many years back. I tend to like the avenging angle, especially since they are leaving the Kingdom's kids' corpses as messages.

Right, we’ve seen this and the symbol from the first epi. (also with a child nailed up), to the horse carcasses, to the ancient cave wall drawing done by the Children a mellinia ago.

The question is why the Night King has used them - what is he attempting to say? What does he want? Is there some type of communication going on here or just a long-lost memory from a different life/past?

I guess we’ll see.

i just dont think they have time to really get into it. he clearly stole it from the Children, and I doubt we get much more info than that

Agreed. I think it’s just their to show they’re not completely unthinking and their “culture” reflects their creators.

Honestly, even the Reddit theorizers are perplexed by this one, even though many think it's some sort of clue. Some have connected it to the Golden Ratio in mathematics, which would imply it references a harmoniously perfect ideal; elsewhere, that notion has been dismissed. Other speculation hones in on the fact that the spiral often has seven arms, perhaps a nod to the seven kingdoms. In an earlier post-episode talkback Benioff offered little explanation for its recurrence. "These are patterns that have mystical significance for the Children of the Forest," he said. "We're not sure exactly what they signify, but spiral patterns are important in a lot of different cultures in our world, and it makes sense that they would be in this world as well."
