First let’s discuss the drain, for it leads to the other. Where in Westeros do we have a largely landlocked body of water that many rivers/streams likely drain into?
That would be the Gods’ Eye lake.
except...not a single river or stream drains into the lake. in fact, it is the source (not the receptor) of the river that eventually joins blackwater rush

This is the Endgame, folks. The Night King doesn’t give a damn about humans. Not really. He’s after the Children of the Forest and their sacred font of power on the Isle.
except...not a single mention of the isle of faces has been made in the show. not howland reed's visit to the isle, not in any of old nan's stories, not a peep. this is a book only feature

I’m glad a lot of people liked my theory! It’s certainly not bulletproof, but it’s been bouncing around in my head for a while now. To address some potential flaws:
Just because they’re too insignificant to not make the major maps does not mean that they don’t exist. Also, having one outlet doesn’t exempt the lake from overall drain status. Consider Lake Victoria:
While the Kagera River might be the largest insource river, thousands of smaller streams are also documented as contributing. Of note is the fact that only the Nile is a point of discharge.
This is a valid concern. It’s very possible that this motive may have been axed in the show for something less esoteric.
However, it would take very little setup to reveal if they so desired. Jon and all of their combined armies could fall back to Harrenhall, the only castle in the realm large enough to hold their forces within, to stage a last stand. Cersei (or some successor) could abandon King’s Landing and march on it for the final battle.
It’s almost certain that Howland Reed and his people will meet up with them during the retreat through the marsh and Moat Cailin, informing Jon, Bran, and the rest of the Isle and its significance. Howland knows. He’s been there.
shite, I only just thought of this now, but it makes a lot of sense.

its a good theory...i very much hope that the children return to assist. i just dont think the spirals have anything to do with a "drain" or any other theoretical geologic features that dont appear on the only maps we have
honestly, the children still existing on the isle of faces is the only endgame scenario that makes any sense, and i think it will absolutely play a part in the books. i fear that the show will use a less interesting method

It seems to have something in the middle of 7 extremities maybe symbolizing death in the middle of the seven kingdoms?
