My theories about some of the show endgame (not talking about the books in my post):
I don't think Dany will survive the series. Not because she was a fairly boring character between S2-S6, but because they've set her up to be so invincible/flawless/literally fireproof in the show. That tells me she could die in the penultimate episode of the series IMO and leave Jon to raise their child.
Or if both of them die I could see Tyrion or Sansa raising him/her. Hell maybe even Arya and Gendry.
And the closer we get to the finish line, the more I think Bran will die. I think they're setting up House Stark to continue via the female line. And I tend to think that Gendry could end up with Arya or perhaps Sansa. I also think House Lannister will survive through Tyrion in the show...maybe him and Sansa will make a marriage pact or "renew" their vows.
I think Jaime, Tormund, Davos, Brienne, The Hound will all die though.
And I tend to think Varys, Cersei, Euron, Theon, Melisandre, Greyworm, etc. will all die too.
The safest character to survive the series is by far Sam and I think the show will jump forward to him writing down the histories of Westeros.
I also think the battle with the Night King will be 4-5 episodes and they spend the last 2-3 episodes on dealing with Euron.

Haven't watched any leaks yet (but did read spoilers) bc wife has wanted to wait. Just looked over and told her if 7 leaks tonight we are watching it tonight. It's gonna happen and it will be glorious.

They had the chain because the Night King knew Dany would come with her dragons. The entire thing was a trap. Also the wights jumped down there
