Black dude in the pen is my New favorite character. Good episode. I've been annoyed by the slow buildup but I think that the payoff - the shite hitting the fan, the destruction of Travis's effeminate liberal mirage, the shattering of the teenager's short-sighted self absorption, and the ascension of pragmatic realpolitik will make these first 5 episodes all worth it. But then, I am an optimist.

Ok. It was a good episode for me. Lots of happenings and some fairly intense stuff going down.

Interesting that the soldiers/national guard intended to eliminate the civilians (was the word he used "humanely"?) before they left. To cut down on the number of walkers in the long run I guess.

Though I'm not sure why they just kept a ton of walkers locked up in the area. Seems like they would have taken care of them right away.

Also, the firefight scene was interesting. Were those live humans they went after? If not those soldiers were pretty piss poor at clearing a building (unless it was those that came out fragged the CO or something - that one guy seemed to be ready to head the hell for home)

Wimpy son not making a move on the sloot chick (even if she was sort of his step sister once removed or something) when she was clearly good to go?

Addict son looks like he is gonna be that guy's bitch pretty voluntarily.

There was definitely something up with the mumblings of Griselda. Did she throw over her real husband or true love to hook up with Daniel back in El Salvador to save her family or something?

There are so many interesting takes on the origin that they could have chosen, yet they chose this lame arse set of characters and plot.

I keep watching thinking it is going to pick up and pay off. One more chance this season, but I'm not expecting much at this point.

It's sad how badly they blew it with this series.

What do yall think Daniel is planning to do with the arena of walkers? Is he going to let them loose to try to wreak havoc on the military before they try to leave, or was he just going to see the arena for himself?

No way he's gonna let them out. He's gonna try and wreak havoc on the military though. Travis is gonna start understanding what you have to do cause he's gonna see how really bad it is.

Also, frick that kid for not making a move.

Episode was decent. Not compelling but decent. We're starting to get to a point where stuff will get good, problem is the season will be over. Good news is that TWD will be starting.

Oh, I don't know. Zombies eating people would be a nice start. They could throw in a remotely sympathetic or believable character. Not skipping over those 9 days when all the exciting stuff apparantly happened might have been nice too.

Zombies, people being bit by zombies, people turning into zombies, people being afraid of zombies, people killing zombies. I mean I didn't watch the walking dead for years cause I wasn't a big zombie fan. But the lack of them in this show is has proven to me they are needed in a zombie apocalypse.

We have said that for 5 episodes.

Know what I've noticed? When you watch the sneak peaks of the next episode of the walking dead the most exciting parts are usually not that big of a deal or that exciting in the show, when you watch them for this show they are by far the most exciting moments you will see. And when you watch the show they will be less exciting.

I was under the impression that was the point of this show.

I think a lot of it is just trolling. We're what, 5 episodes in? Most people that really dislike the show will likely have given up by now.

That said, IMO the show is not a brilliant or top tier show. It relies way too much on people doing stuff that is not organic to their characters (or in some cases to any characters) for the sake of moving the plot from point A to point B. But I still find it an enjoyable show and enjoy seeing the human portion of the beginnings of a zombie apocalypse. (really, zombies themselves are not that fascinating to me but I've always been fascinated by "end of the world" stuff).

The show is what I thought it would be. It's gonna take a while to develop the characters and get the zombie apocalypse rolling. They have to show the progressive increase in the number of walkers. It wouldn't really make any sense if the characters woke up one day and half the entire world were zombies.

My only complaint about the show so far is that it seems to have a liberal lean to it. But that should be expected also being as it's based in California.

I really like the show. Reminds me of the few days after Katrina when all communications were down and they were all kinds of rumors where flying around and nobody really knew what was going on.

I like the slow build up and how they trust the military and the US Gov to help. The characters are ok.

They one thing that bothers me is that they do not tell each other what they have seen or stuff like that. My entire family would know everything I saw and what we might have to do.

Best thing they did this episode was showing us the real Hector. They've done a great job of setting him up as some kind of sympathetic hero who we are supposed to think sees the world clearly due to having been the victim of 3rd world human rights abuses in his native country.

Then we find out that he was a member of a death squad and was the one committing the abuses and torture.

Great comment on human nature and those most suited to survive in the coming end times of the zombie apocalypse.

That's what this series was lacking. Some over-the-top characters that stand out from the pack. Now we have the super-smart-smarmy guy who can get things done and the quiet-death-squad guy.

This series needed a Merle, a Shane, a Daryl to stand out. They're starting to get those characters.

The group of run-of-the-mill neighborhood folks were boring me to death.

Me too! It seems like they are heading that way, but AGAIN, they SKIP over the important things. Like this episode, now the military is pulling out? WHY? They haven't really shown crap hit the fan yet, so why they buggin out?

That's my biggest gripe w this show. They assume everyone has watched TWD and now just skip all the important stuff.

Show the chaos!

And for the record....I def woulda nailed the step sister!

If I had to guess, events will unfold where he is cornered by soldiers or otherwise finds himself in a situation that he is forced to open the doors and let the walkers out to get himself some breathing room. And they'll never really address his motivation for going there in the first place.
