Remember the Walking Dead pilot where we saw the remnants of the military over-run when Rick came out of the hospital?

When the military showed up in this show there was hope we were going to get to see how that went down.

The show instantly skipped 9 days and is now showing the military getting over-run with no indication of how they were over-run. They are just bugging out.

The bugging out is strange because we have seen a grand total of one zombie in the last two episodes.

This show feels like it's taking the ratings and raking in cash and didn't put down a budget. There is so much cool shite that could have been shown dealing with the collapse and they haven't done any of it.

In the TWD in Shane's flashback they showed soldiers shooting patients and then getting overcome by walkers. So far this series all we've seen is the injured soldiers and the reports of missing soldiers. I still don't get how they managed to clear most of the 6 mile radius of a city of LA with up to 15-20 million people in it. Most of those people would've turned and somehow you never see very many bodies or walkers when ever they show someone outside of the safe zone.

Yeah, nothing adds up.

The soldier battle wounds you see look like real battle wounds. I suppose they could be from a dropped grenade during a panic, but the show just leaves that hanging.

My cynical side says this is a money grab. They seem to be purposefully avoiding big budget set pieces.

Think about the barber shop. They kept that all outside and unseen. The military has been 10 guys or so in their gear and a couple of humbles. They are not even spending money on make up. Five eps in there have only been a few zombies and those could be done with a Halloween vampire kit from Dollar General.

I'm feeling played.

wat

Something that I haven't seen hardly anyone consider is that a large portion of the population probably skipped out of town pretty early in the event.

Jesus Christ, guys, this show is not that bad.

Or from a certain sect of non-zombies that are thriving in such a incredible catastrophe?

Then quit watching!

Well, we didn't get that because they skipped 9 days and all it would have taken was 3 sentences of exposition from a military guy to say that. Writing is terrible.

Oh.....wait....

They could have shown the chaos of one of the largest population centers on Earth being evacuated. We got candle light Monopoly.

I like the show, I just feel like in the writers room, rule #1 was spray painted on the wall: "Do not write anything that is a large set piece and expensive!"

You must have never evacuated from one of our southern "large" cities for a hurricane.

Much less people and with much more warning and bigger window of time and procedures (contraflow) already in place from prior experiences, and it's still a clusterfrick taking a days time.

Much much more people, who have never evacuated before,
Sudden warning,
No procedures,
Oh yeah and while they're sitting in traffic there'll be zombies biting and people turning.

ALL OF WHICH would have been cool as frick tv.

The 2010 census estimated there were about 18M people in the larger metro LA region.
So in 9 days you think it's possible that even half the people were evacuated especially considering most people didn't even knew what was going on with all panic and riots at first. You do realize how hard it would be for millons of people trying to get out of a large city like that? That captured soldier was talking about how people were turning so fast and with everyone being out in the streets at least a few million would turn in a few days. That's still a lot for the military to clear out so fast without bombing anything.

Exactly, just like the main characters evacuating early in the outbreak...oh wait, they stayed the night and were saved by the military the next day.

So you are saying within 12 hours, 15 million people evacuated LA. Lol.

They referenced this in the third episode when they drove by the hospital and saw the cops shooting the dead patients outside.

After the call for backup, the soldier told Travis he is leaving to go get his family, which is honestly a realistic possibility for the military losing their manpower that leads to them being overrun. Also, before they left the neighborhood, one of the soldiers mentioned to the Lt. how they have been awake for 50 hours straight so it's likely they bailed on him during the building raid because they are fed up.

However, we have no explanation for the cobalt evacuation yet. It would be nice to see what government official is making that call.

During the 9 days that the show inexcusably skipped, The Forum was a shelter point just like the Dome during Katrina. Things went south and whoever was in control just had to bail out and chain the doors. This just speaks to the flaws of this show. A Katrina type sheltering in an arena where things went to hell as people started turning would have been infinitely more interesting than anything we've seen through 5 episodes. This show will never shake off the stink of the 9 day skip. I say this as someone who is still enjoying it.

Great post and exactly how I feel.

That would have been the best episode in either series if they showed that whole breakdown inside the arena.

Why do you seem so personally invested in this show? If you're so offended by people finding fault in the show, go find a bunker and get off the internet.

Offended? Not sure how youve deducted that from my posts. I think that I'm less invested than the people bitching because the show isn't exactly how they hoped it'd be, yet continue to watch. Thanks for your concern, though.

Don't forget the interaction just before, as well. Travis asked one of the soldiers what happened to his face and he said he had a moment of reduced patriotism or something. The implication, to me, was that the lieutenant had smacked him for having doubts about what they were being made to do.

Exclaiming that people who have issues with the show should "Just quit watching!" is like telling everyone who finds fault in American politics to "just move then!" It's reactionary and silly.

Many of us were excited about the show and have had a slow burn of disappointment as it plods along rather pointlessly. You're acting like the people who kept blindly defending season 2 of True Detective with little more than "Well, you just don't get it."

Not only that, but I kind of thought that was exactly the point of this show, to show that stuff. Someone said they are already committed to something like 15 episodes of season 2, so maybe the "inexplicable" reason they skipped the 9 days is they plan to show them in flashbacks, maybe some soldiers will end up with this group and it will be part of their back story.

what a ridiculous comment comparing two completely different scenarios. One is not "like" the other at all. Try again?

Oh no! You poor babies! I apologize for being so inconsiderate of your feelings!

True Detective Season 2 sucked arse.

Fear of the Walking Dead has been enjoyable to me so far. If it wasn't and I hated it, I would stop watching and watch something else. There are so many shows running right now, why would I watch something that I loathe? Makes no sense.
