Maybe I missed something in between but, Logan was on last night and he died at the end. How did he come back? Or is this pre-Logan?

Haven't seen 90% of Marvel movies, but think this entire thing is a play on the multiverse... Thats how his girlfriend is back and then snippets of variants of DP.

Logan died in 2029 so it's pre Logan but also another timeline.

I won't see it in theaters, but can't wait to see once it goes digital.
This makes no sense? Go to a movie before 3pm or so, and it's like $6 bucks, maybe less. It's fun. Get out. Support a local business.

the misfortune of sitting through multiple Shawn Levy-directed movies
Like Date Night, Real Steel, Night at the Museum, and Cheaper by the Dozen?
His movies tend to do poorly with critics, but really well with audiences. His audience scores are high.
In this case, the critics are right and the audiences are wrong. He has a lot more dreck that you didn't even list. I am surprised Marvel turned over such a crucial project to him.

His gf is back because at the ending of the second movie, Deadpool got his hands on a Time Machine and used it to “fix the timeline” to save her from dying (and kill Ryan Reynolds before he could make “Green Lantern”).
The Loki tv series shows that there is this bureaucracy that “protects” time by eliminating alternative universes when weird shite causes timelines to branch off.
Deadpool getting a Time Machine and doing wacky Deadpool stuff brings him into conflict with this bureaucracy. It seems that the Deadpool movie wants to use that Marvel plotline as a way to explain selectively incorporating parts of the 20th Century Fox Marvel film continuity with the Disney Marvel Cinematic Universe. Because it’s Deadpool, they can do this while also breaking any semblance of a 4th Wall and lampooning their respective movie studios.

Trailers give me hope.
I'm sure it's better than anything Marvel has put out lately, but that's a pretty low bar. Forget the reviews. I'm waiting to see what the word on the street is.

. I don't like Ryan's Deadpool character except for in the early scenes of the Wolverine origin movie. His mouth was a little humorous to me then and the scene coming out of the elevator is pretty good. I don't think I will see it.

Currently at 79% with 128 reviews, but like the last 2 Deadpools, the top critics (63.2%) are rating it much lower than the non-top critics (85.6%). When I’ve observed this in the past, the audience tends to have higher ratings, in line or often even higher than the non-top critics.
Critics (the "professional reviewers") often want highbrow and/or artstiness while the masses just want fun entertainment. The non-"professional" masses often pick movies the critics pan because critics seem to fail on understanding that many don't find their version of "good" to be entertaining.

I think it hits 200 mil, or very close to it. Tix sales are exploding this week.

Agree with you. He is the definition of meh. I still have hopes for this movie but he is the most vanilla director in the history of directors. Just no style. Everything is completely bland or vanilla. Always directs movies that are anywhere from like 40% to 60% on RT.
The best thing he's ever done is be a fricking producer for Stranger Things...
ETA: Up to 81% on RT. Hope it delivers. I want to be excited for the MCU again but it's been a long, long time.

Yes (though I haven't seen Real Steel). Add in Just Married, The Internship, and The Pink Panther for a mostly complete group of his shoddily-made attempted crowd pleasers that are forgettable at best, but mostly just bad. How does Night at the Museum potentially being the best work on your CV get you the Deadpool job?
Which brings us to this decade. Those other movies are bad. Free Guy and The Adam Project are offensively bad. Free Guy is nothing narrative built around borrowed iconography. I cannot comprehend how people found it enjoyable. But he's obviously become buddies with Reynolds.
As bad as people think the MCU has become, it's scary to consider what this studio hack job director would have done with an Avengers movie, as was rumored for a minute a couple weeks ago.
That said, this Deadpool movie could be good. I would never rule it out, and I will eventually see it. I just can't get my hopes up due to this director.
