Yeah, they lost in the domestic market. Panda 4 doesn't have the international distribution that Dune has.

The $82.5 million is from Dune’s domestic opening weekend. You’re comparing Dune’s second weekend to Panda’s first because you didn’t read the article.

I think the bigger point is "the Star Wars/Empire Strikes Back of this generation" should not drop to #2 at the box office in it's second weekend.

A 42% second week drop is the 14th smallest drop for a movie opening in 3000+ theaters and $50 million+

What competition is out there right now?

I haven't seen this yet, and want it to be good. I enjoyed the first one. I don't think the first one is the next Great Thing, it's great visuals and kinda thin on details and depth. That's why I have said seeing the Lynch version was a great primer, because it did explain some stuff left unsaid in this version, which does indeed look much better on most parts. I would hope this strikes a better balance on that part.

The first movie walked so the second one could run.

If the box office makes something good then Marvel has put out a lot of masterpieces. Move over Daniel Day Lewis, Chris Evans as Captain America is coming through.

Movie was great. I still have 1 above 2 but both easily top 15 the last 20-30 years of movies

I'll probably wait for streaming. Zendaya and to a lesser degree Chalamet are really overrated and they are the leads. Did they at least do a good job with the Guild Navigators? Loved that from the Lynch version:

I have been critical of Chalamet in the past but he was incredible in this.

Zendaya wasn't bad either, but she wasn't nearly as good as Butler or Chalamet.

The flaws of this argument are so apparent it’s actually stunning anyone would even try to make it

Just saw it yesterday and this:

It was visually gorgeous and the sound design was incredible, it should win both
is how I felt. I had been unimpressed with the story telling in part 1, and this was only slightly better. I'm not a book reader, so I can't say anything about how it was supposed to go, but I really didn't like the ending. I can see myself continuing to rewatch the '84 movie, but doubt I will rewatch these.

pretty sure I'd be happier with just about any cutting room floor film than the 2 or 3 wasted minutes from her resting bitch face scenes.

They added nothing to the film.

How dare you peasants forget the groundswell of complaints from her millions of fans who were SO unhappy she wasn't in more scenes in the first film?

Put butts in the seats and count their money.

Ending was super meh.

this is what bugged me the most about the new one, it wasnt bad, but it wasnt nearly as good as the original one, but i liked it until the end and it just got really stupid.

now i didnt memorize the book like some people around here do, so i dont care how things are in the book, i just base my opinions on what i see in the movies themselves. and the other earlier version was a way better story and acting

I haven’t read a single word of the books and it was very possibly my favorite movie of the last decade. It 100% lived up to the hype from where I was sitting.

then you need to go watch the original version Dune 1984

then you will understand why people like that version much better

no one is saying this one is bad, they are just saying the way the 1984 version is done is way better as far as the story and acting, but the special effects arent as good as the new movie since it was limited by its 1984 special effects

Only complaint I have is that the series of events where the Emperor takes the bait and then gets his compound overrun went by very fast compared to the rest of the film.

Probably could've cut down on the Giedi Prime and sandworm scenes a bit to flesh out the massive Sardaukar vs. Fremen war, but other than that I thought it was a fantastic film that definitely lived up to the hype IMO.

Why some people like it better you mean? Because the majority of people like the newer version better.

no one is saying this one is bad,

And tons of people say the 1984 version is bad. I'm a Dune and David Lynch fan. The 1984 version should be right up my alley, but it's just not a great film, at all. It's in no way better than DV's Dune.

I really like the 1984 version until the shields come on or Alia talks
