Has there ever been a couple who seemed to hate each other more? Carrie seemed to always complain about Doug and mention cheating on him. Doug just wanted to be fat and hated Carrie nagging the whole time. Seems like the worst match in TV history.
Carrie in the first 4-5 seasons was an absolute smoke show too

Why downvote? You don’t agree?

It’s one of my favorite sitcoms to watch mindlessly at night. But as I reached 40…. They just seem to hate each other so much haha

people argue and reconcile
and argue again
sometimes John Cleese and Eric Idle are friends. At other times Cleese has said things like "Eric Idle gives disloyalty a bad name"

Seems like most TV couples are like that. Its almost like Hollywood may have some kind of agenda to make marriage look as unappealing as possible. Hmmn.

I meant like… really? I have never heard that!
I mean Carrie might be a psycho with her Tom Cruise and her abduction Into Scientology during that period?
Her E true Hollywood would be pretty interesting

So if they "Hated each other" why did season 2 of James's new show Kevin can Wait kill off his TV wife to bring Ole Carrie back?
OP- Not sure there was "hate" but Arthur didn't help the relationship.

Or, the show would be pretty boring if the loving couple never fought. The conflict brought out all the comedy. It was a great formula. Relatable marital conflict, Artur in the middle, makeup at the end of the episode.

They didn’t have kids to frame stories around. A sitcom about a simple married couple with no kids who got along great all the time probably wouldn’t be very good, so they created the dynamic OP is referencing.

I always find this weird, because he got the actress playing his wife in his new series fired so they could bring in Leah Remini.

This. Doug messing up and Carrie getting mad was the funny dynamic. What happened at the end? Did they end up splitting up or at least they were about to, which was kind of the natural and logical progression of that relationship. Great show. Brining in Arthur was the final piece.

I love that show. Now that I'm older and understand husband/wife dynamics better and am more aware of in-law dynamics, I enjoy King of Queens and Everybody Loves Raymond more now than I did then.
I love King of Queens. It was a time on TV where the men are always dumb and goofy. So that is why the dynamic was the way it is with Carrie, with Doug being a 30 yr old kid. So much is relatable but I never looked at Carrie as a nag....she was usually on point with Doug. I think she was pregnant for one of the seasons and you could see a distinct change in dress and appearance.
She almost got the Courney Cox character on Friends, IIRC.
