True, but she had no idea what she was getting herself into. Remember that her parents were divorced so she viewed Raymond's family as a traditional, loving family that supported each other. How was she to know what she was in for?

I can't remember...was she in Stuff or Maxim?

I thought she came from divorced parents. Either way, doesn't matter, the show makes it clear that she always wanted a traditional, tight relationship with her mother, which she never got, and felt she could have that with Marie.

She could've listened to Ray who told her it was a bad idea, but she never listens to Ray. Ray was a goober, and he did deserve some scorn. However, the way she treated him as a man-baby while he provided for the entire family made her pretty unlikeable.

I never came away disliking Debra. She had her faults but the stuff she had to deal with from Marie and Ray would make anybody crazy.
The manipulating that Marie did was crazy and I was sort unaware of it till re-watching it later in life and after seeing it 1st hand in our lives, I now relate.

I absolutely agree with the Marie aspect. She dealt with a ton. The manipulation is so much more apparent a an adult. However, from the same viewpoint of being older, her condescension with Ray is more annoying as well.

Not sure there was "hate" but Arthur didn't help the relationship.
This was always my take. How can Carrie ever win an argument or have a complaint against Doug when he has to put up with Arthur

Spoilers I guess
Didn't Doug and Carrie break up at the end or at least come close? I can't remember the ending

This.
To tie it to this thread, there is an episode of KOQ where Marie comes to pick up Ray when he was playing golf with Doug.
She has to wait at the house with Carrie. Carrie is cleaning, and Marie points out how she's doing it wrong. So, Carrie gets her to basically clean their house 'teaching' her the correct way. Pretty funny episode...

I liked the one where Doug's dad starts going through their closet and figures out how much Carrie is spending on clothes and shoes.
One of my favorites with Doug's parents was the one where they kept replacing the family dog w/ a new one of the same breed so they wouldn't have to tell him his dog died and Carrie breaks the news to him. And I was wrong about Arthur, he appeared in S1 E 1.

One of my favorites
Everyone blames Doug's cousin Danny, but when Carrie realizes the truth, she pushes Doug to confess.
But then she realizes that everyone is laughing at the size of "little Doug", and advises Doug to let Danny take the fall.

The episode where Carrie worked at IPS during the Holidays and drove Doug insane was classic, one of my favs.

What???? I never saw this.
I knew Kevin James had been in some ELR episodes, but I didn't know it was the character Doug Heffernan and certainly didn't see this episode.

Doug and Arthur found out Carrie was much nicer and agreeable if she had a drink or two when she got home, so the started having happy hour every night and getting her drunk so they could do what they wanted.
Or the one where Doug goes cheap on the eye surgery plan for Carrie and she's blind for a week.

The episodes where he lies his arse off and she catches him in spectacular fashion never get old

Or Doug claims he's taking Deacon out clubbing to find women when in reality he's just going to party for himself
Also loved the episode where Lou Ferrigno trains Doug and Carrie separately and Doug cuts a deal with him to let him play the Playstation during their sessions so he doesnt have to work out.

Doug: Bless me father for I have sinned. It's been *mumbles* since my last confession.
Priest: How long?
Doug: 14 years.
