Do you get the feeling that Adam Driver is a greater actor than the roles he gets?

And I know he's had some really good roles, but I don't think he's had a defining role. A truly great role, and I think he's the sort of actor that really has one coming.

Marlon Brando had Vito. Robert Deniro had Travis. Jack Nicholson had Mac. I think Adam Driver has the potential to be up there with guys like that, and he just needs that one role to make it happen.

There was a time not too long ago, when I might have dismissed that idea.

Not anymore.

I overcame my feelings for the Star Wars sequels, and realized how good an actor he is.

Big of me, I know.

He's been around long enough now where he should have a movie or two that's memorable. He doesn't.

No, and his goofy face is distracting. I laughed out loud when he took off the helmet in TFA.

I chuckled. I like that he has an unusual look though. Willem Dafoe also has an unusual look.

I think the dude is excellent. I admire his military past- better than 95% of the drama club queers we see in roles every day.

I thought he was great in the movie with ScarJo about a divorced couple. Pretty sure he was nominated for an Oscar in that one.

If they cast him as Snape in the Harry Potter Series, he will rake in that WB money, as well as his continued Star Wars money.... And I think he would be perfect for it.

Yeah I see him as more of an Adrien Brody type. Good actor and will get plenty of decent roles in his career, but I don't ever see him being one of those people who can "play anything" (ie. Nicholson, DiCaprio, Blanchett, etc.).

Oh, he has a movie or two that are memorable. They just aren't good memories.

When was the last great defining role?
Gladiator? Silence of the Lambs?

Not sure how you're interpreting "defining role" but Hopkins has 2 Oscars and 6 nominations. Crowe has 1 win and 3 noms.

If we're talking major breakthrough and/or iconic, Cillian Murphy in Oppenheimer is an easy one, Ledger in The Dark Knight,

I like him as an actor. His performance in Marriage Story was great. I actually thought he was good in BlacKkKlansman. I think he is excellent when he was on SNL. It seems like he needs to pick better roles.

The subplot with the prisoner negotiations are the highlight of that gem of a movie. It only gets better with age because the situation hasn’t changed.
