re: Did your parents take you to R rated movies in the 80's, 90's

I can safely say that my parents never went to the theater and saw an R-rated movie themselves, much less take me to one.
Certainly can't recall hearing of any friends accompanying their parents to see such fare either. In fact, it would have been pretty shocking to hear of such a thing happening, and I would recall such.
But then, I'm talking of slightly earlier times, in the 1970s. The very last time my parents went to the theater to see a movie was "Rooster Cogburn" with John Wayne, in 1975. I'm pretty sure it was PG.
And no, none of this was because my parents were very religious or anything. But they just didn't like characters cursing, or anything particularly reeking of smut.

Yes. My parents would just try and cover my eyes for the nudes scenes. I saw Predator in theaters at 6. That's the first r rated I remember seeing.

Yup. I distinctly recall my mom taking me to see Coming To America. I was 8 or 9 at the time.

Absolutely not
My parents did let me watch Braveheart as a kid which was a weird exception.

I watched Mischief in the theater with my dad and older brother when I was 9. I don’t think my dad was expecting full frontal Kelly Preston.

Was Smokey and the Bandit rated R? If so that was my first. I was probably 7 and it was at a drive-in.

No. My parents wanted to be parents, not my buddy.
My father worked 6 days week with the family business and never took vacation so unfortunately he didnt have much time to be a parent. Same with his father. Going to the movies or the arcade for a few hours on Sat night or on Sunday was about all the time we got together. We would talk for hours after about the stories, characters and the scenes. I guess he felt I was mature enough to handle the violence. He is almost 85 and a doting grandfather. We still go to the movies together.

Yes, all of them.
Eventually my sister got a job at the theaters and me and my friends were just let in to whatever we wanted without parents.

My friend’s mom took us to see Basic Instinct at The Pavillion in Kenner when we were 13.
Yea I dont recall seeing anything overtly sexual in the theater(except one scene in Hardware). Mostly just Arnie and company blowing shite up.

in theater Ghost and the Darkness was my first R rated, but I watched tons of them at home since the 80s (within reason.)
my first boobs were Doc Hollywood (a PG movie) and first violent death was either robocop or die hard.

My dad took me and my friends when we were about 10-12, and dropped us off if I remember right, to see
American Werewolf in Paris,
Starship troopers,
ghost and the darkness
there are probably more but those are the main ones I remember in theater. The late 80’s were at home early on though

I Know What You Did Last Summer was the first I can remember seeing. I would’ve been 12 or 13.

I was 8 when I saw my first R rated movie in theaters: Con Air. That wasn’t my parents doing though, it was my spinster aunt who dropped me, my sister and some cousins off at the theater. I remember her signing a waiver at the ticket booth
I remember my parents taking me to Gladiator. I would have just turned 11 when that was out.
My favorite movie when I was 5 was T2. I’d watch it at home all the time.

I took my kids (about seven and ten) to see Animal House

Starship Troopers
I was able to rent it when it came out on home video when I had a buddy over. It blew our sky-high expectations out of the water. Gory action, boobs, killing bugs. Im pretty sure we watched it twice. That was an epic sleepover.
Still one of my all time favorite movies.

Once I went with my dad and older cousin to see a double feature, Prom Night and The Exterminator.
I was 8 and yes, I had nightmares that night and had to go to the parents' room to be able to sleep that night.

One of my first memories was going to see Gremlins with two of my cousins. I was around 3 at the time.
I watched whatever I picked out at the video store in the early 90s from Color of Night to Sleepaway Camp.
