I think affleck and Damon didn’t think they could do jordan justice by having an actor or athlete portray him. Makes sense

I totally agree with them for not attempting to have someone portray Jordan.

Saw it yesterday. Loved it. Imo all the main actors killed it. The writing was great. It takes quite a feat to make a movie where you absolutely know how it’s going to end and still make it compelling. Also, great to see Tucker back- great role for him.

This thread perfectly encapsulates why this board fricking sucks now.

Yep. I remember when you, Freauxzen, me, and others had some awesome conversations about movies, directors, etc without all the politics, but I guess that's the world we live in today.

I'm still rocking the sig pic you made me based on those old threads.

Just saw it. This movie was absolutely excellent.

Acting was great, especially Damon and Bateman.

Agreed. Have to throw Viola Davis in there as well for a great performance.

I watched it last night and 2 things hit me:

1. I don't know how they kept the tension in a story I knew the ending to. I paused it during the Nike presentation about halfway through the commercial and ask myself as I was walking into the kitchen why I was so anxious with how poorly the presentation was going when I knew full well he signed. Kudos.

2. Something happened in the last few minutes of the movie that almost never happens to me, I knew it would end with me wanting more. I was ready for this to be just the first act and would have loved to see the second and third act (not just the outro) in the Nike/Jordon relationship, even already knowing the story.

It has been a long time since I enjoyed a "small" story as much as this one.

One thing did bother me (and maybe 2-3 other people in the entire world) was Phil talking about the color of his 930 Turbo (which is redundant I know). I consider myself as a bit of a Porsche color hobbyist (hot sure what to call it since I am certainly not a guru). The dark purple like that during the era would have been called Royal Purple in the US and had the designation Flieder in Germany which translates to lilac they also had a light purple also called Flieder in some of those years but the 911 they used is clearly not that. The Royal Purple was never called a gray/grey in the US or Europe but there was a Moonstone that looked like the light lilac color and was occasionally officially called Moonstone Gray. I don't know if Phil Knight didn't know what he was talking about IRL or if the propmaster got the color wrong.

Interested to see how Sonny Vaccaro is portrayed.

Pretty unbelievable that Matt Damon was picked to portray Sonny but I think he portrayed the role pretty well

Affleck can add this along with Argo, The Town and Gone Baby Gone, but someone suggested he’s not a good director ? Okayyyy

Propmasters don’t get the vehicles (for the Porsche nerd). There is an entire picture Cars department (reverse nerd move)

Watched it last night and really enjoyed it …. Design seemed simple but was very well done and of course helps to have Bob Richardson shooting it.

And my understanding is they shot it in under 35 days … amazing

The movie was good. Not only did my wife and I like it but our college and high school aged kids liked it as well.

The acting was good and Viola Davis held her own with some of the best actors in the business.

Funny movie from the start.

Love Bateman
Sonny-“I can tell him one thing the other companies can’t compete with. Our basketball division is fcking terrible”
Rob-“I do not love it”

Weird not seeing Jordans face

I love that about this movie. Just a background character, but I swear the few time he did talk, it sounded exactly like him.

Great film, I especially loved the speech Vacarro gave when he saw that the pitch wasn't going well the included the real life flashback scenes. Difficult seeing that scene knowing that Jordan's dad tragically gets murdered.

The movie was great, but I was surprised by how many times I laughed out loud.

Don't care for Affleck the actor, but he's a damn good director. Gone Baby Gone and the Town are two of my favorites of the last 15 years.

Watches this over the weekend and really liked it.

Not sure how re-watchable it will be, but on first watch it was really good.

Granted, I am probably the target demographic for the nostalgia pieces (I would have been 9 when this was happening) but the music and pop-culture clips were great.

I think what really struck me was the use of certain songs at certain times:
The opening lines of Time after Time (Lyin' in my bed, I hear the clock tick and think of you/Caught up in circles, confusion is nothing new) Sonny is waiting to hear if they closed the deal;
Tempted being played as the Jordan's arrive at the Nike meeting;
Sirius was really cool to hear since it was used as the Bulls music for starting lineups for the Jordan era..

I enjoyed the movie very much. Davis is amazing and Damon is better than I thought he could be.

It’s just a pivotal time of my life and very nostalgic.

One thing I’ll old man get off my lawn about. My 13 yo asked while watching did people in the 90s say the F word this much?

Made me realize this is an R movie just because of language that was probably unnecessary. But whatever. I guess I am just old.

matt damon as sonny vaccaro is pretty funny

I enjoyed the movie, very well done and captured the 80s office setting perfectly

I thoroughly enjoyed the David Falk character, they nailed his abrasive personality

The David Faulk character was amazing. His rant when he finds out Matt Damon went behind his back is up there with the greatest rants in cinema.
