No. It's because DC and Marvel want to use everything that Frank Miller has done with their characters as the basis for their movies and TV series.

Which is a mistake. Move the frick on, especially in the case in Daredevil, in which Miller's run isn't even one of the three best runs on the book. Though I would argue the show is trying to go more of the Bendis/Brubaker route. And actually, the MCU owes a lot more to Brubaker than Miller. Miller's worldview is so adolescent, and it's been effectively destroyed by Alan Moore's critques.

You can't bitch about how Donner treated Superman as a children's cartoon and then in the next breath, use that movie's decisions to justify your own.
Oh, I'm not. I don't mind the way he treated Superman at all.

Well, it happens, you've never been unsure of yourself? Or had self doubt if you could do something or be something others want you to do or be? Or if you even wanted to in the first place?

Agree. Millar's adolescent, misogynistic material is a relic is a bygone era that I don't miss. There are so many better creators that could be used as a foundation.

I don't know about all that.

I see other reviews are praising this movie. I think you have to have low expectations going in.

And here we get into a major difference between the MCU and the DCU. The MCU is definitely occupying the space in this post-Miller world. It is far more inclusive, egalitarian, and conscious of the responsibility of being a hero. It is the Bendis-verse, for lack of a better term. The DCU is trapped in this reflection of Miller and seems unable to do anything that is not a Miller story, inspired by Miller, or written by one of his literary descendants. Let's be honest, Snyder is likely a HUGE Frank Miller fan.

Care to share? The best review I've seen is 3.5 out of 4 and it is all alone.

Maybe so, but DC has made Year One and DKR part of their DNA...it makes sense to portray that on screen.

That is very well put. I lack the ability to express it as eloquently, but to me Millar's world occupies the same mid/late-90's space as Jerry Springer, the Farrelly Brothers, an MA-rated Monday Night Raw, and the early South Parks, with various levels of things being EXTREME, vulgar, shocking or otherwise "adult".

We've sort of moved past that culturally, you know? Millar (and Snyder by way of leaning on the tone established by Millar) seems stuck there.

It's funny how much the audience has liked every film more while the critics have gone the opposite way.

Since no one is trying to win Oscars for these movies, isn't audience reception the more important number?

I have not seen one review praising this movie other than the grand visuals, which are highly subjective. Not even huge DC fans.

ETA: There are some saying the acting by most of the cast is outstanding. Some are raving about Affleck's Batman, but that's it. And that will be highly subjective as well.

I've seen reviews praising everything except the flow of the story. Different reviewers like different things. Multiple praises for Affleck, Gadot, Irons, the fight choreography, music, CGI, pretty much everything. Just too many reviewers who didn't like it.

I would put this in the grand visuals category.

I haven't seen one praising the music, yet. I have seen many who hated it.

For his acting job, yes. But, his portray of the character will be highly subjective to the general audience, I promise.

I own the soundtrack. It's a HUGE letdown, dare I say terrible.

I loved the Mos Score and the BvS score sounds like they mailed it in.

It's tough seeing a Batman related production get railed on so hard by the critics after the decade under Nolan. But I guess the character survived Batman & Robin somehow.

I'm embarrassed by the amount of soundtracks on my phone. If historians in 10,000 years find it they're going to think this John Williams guy must've been the most popular music act of the time
