All posters are equal, but some posters are more equal than others

Why did they distribute this?
USAID money?

Thought about the money, looks like they thought wrong.

Which is more likely, they didn't watch the movie or never read the book in the first place?

Probably just thought about the money on the name alone, and that led to getting greedy pretending it’s still 1996 when people couldn’t communicate instantly about any and everything.

They had a merger and went public. Angel Studios as we knew it doesn’t exist anymore, it’s a skin suit.

They didn't greenlight it. They picked up US distribution of a completed film. They probably didn't spend much on it, given the film's rejection history. The negative response from its festival screenings last year, and the months-long delay between premiere and being acquired by Angel.
Why is accurate information that corrects a misconceptin getting downvotes?

I’m not a boomer but this gets so tiresome on these boards. Why not just say “my wife’s parents”? It is like you are trying to add an extra insult, insinuating that being over a certain age automatically makes you stupid.

Still run by LDS members.
They’re used to rewriting source material, including the Bible (The Chosen).

That almost makes it worse though. That means they saw the film, saw how the book was bastardized, thought about it, discussed it, then said, “Our audience will frickin LOVE this, let’s do it.”
That’s a level of tone-deaf (or total buffoonery) I honestly didn’t expect from Angel.

I like Andy Serkis but this was just so obviously gonna flop. Bad idea, bad execution

Was it the endearing line “THAT’S the sound of freedom” ? Which mocks their own popular movie & the idea of freedom itself by equating it to a gross fart joke?
Feels more like a humiliation ritual anything.

I’m totally confused as I understand Angel studios to be a right leaning production company?
Why did they distribute this?
I've been a big movie fan my whole life and until this thread, I had no idea there was such brand loyalty to distribution companies

You know the difference between Angel and other distributors, you’re being intentionally obtuse. Angel actively asks people to donate to them, to join their “Guild,” because as their website states plainly:
“Support films & filmmakers that share your values.”
Their whole model is giving an alternative to the normal Hollywood machine. If they’re going to essentially join it, I think it’s perfectly fair for people to feel bait-and-switched.

estimated $1.15M domestically on Friday (from 2,600 locations), including previews.
Would love to see the breakdown of revenue to show that most of this $1.15M came from previews

Blows my mind they are trying to sell this as a children’s film. I took my daughter to see Super Mario Galaxy and this was on of the trailers they showed.
I booed in the theater when this preview ended during that film.
Looked terrible, knew it would be a bad adaptation of the source material.
It’s going to be “great” in a month or two when it hits streaming and some entertainment-rag is going to have a headline stating “Animal Farm finds new life on streaming” because it’s getting some views.
