Animal Farm adaptation made for the "modern audience" slaughtered at box office

Absolute nuclear bomb here for Angel Studios. Also got a C- CinemaScore from viewers, which is supposedly the lowest for an animated film since the service began. Woof.
And the modern audience thing isn't just a meme, it was said by director Andy Serkis, presumably unironically.

No idea what Angel Studios was thinking green lighting this.

Andy Serkis explains what his Animal Farm movie is about:
"It couldn't be more relevant than today. And history repeats itself. And although Orwell was writing about totalitarianism in particularly in Russia in 1945, 1946 this book hold up as an incredible distillation of what it is to be oppressive, what it is to face authoritarianism.
And what we've done is we've contemporized it. We wanted to make it for—. There hadn't been a retelling of this that really connects with a modern audience. So we've couched it in such a way that it feels like a family film.
But the themes, the dark themes are all there. They're all present. The Orwellian nature of it is incredibly powerful under the surface, but we've smuggled the politics in so that it's a debate that can be opened up between young people and families and old. It's really watchable by everyone from 8 to 80."

Whoever funded this movie is a complete moron.

That’s what happens when you invert the story

They didn't greenlight it. They picked up US distribution of a completed film. They probably didn't spend much on it, given the film's rejection history. The negative response from its festival screenings last year, and the months-long delay between premiere and being acquired by Angel.

If tweet fails to load, click here. Also Angel letting their biggest movie ever get clowned in a movie they distributed is wild.

"Modern" - LGBTQ, women, and racially resentful non-whites

Angel Studios made a mistake purchasing this. They may have got it on the cheap, but it’s going to turn off a lot of their audience. I like what they’re trying to do in the industry so hopefully they learn from this.

Fans of that studio need to relentlessly bombard Angel's social media to drive the point home what a screw up this was.

Seth Rogan is laughing all the way to the bank too. He's torpedoed this so called Conservative movie studio and got in a line that mocks their top movie and anyone who supported them.
Then they STILL double down on the humiliation ritual!

Must have been all those free tickets they gave away.

This film is actual communist propaganda.
I’ve no idea who Angel thought they base viewers were but I’m guessing they aren’t communists who enjoy films made for a “modern audience”.

Blows my mind they are trying to sell this as a children’s film. I took my daughter to see Super Mario Galaxy and this was on of the trailers they showed.

This was a huge mistake for Angel to put their distribution name behind this monstrosity.. really fricking dumb.

This should have been a straight to streaming movie anyway.

My wife's boomer parents subscribe to Angel's streaming service because they have this perception that's it's a Christian streaming service just trying to spread a good word.
I'm really curious to get their take on this.

I already said my piece on this movie when it was announced
Orwell was anti-idealogue, anti-authoritarian
He hated all purist ideologies
This movie is doing about as well as anyone thought, with an ounce of awareness
