Frieren is such a refreshing change of pace with clearly evil protagonists. In their world, demons are monsters who feed on humans, but have evolved to the point that they can speak human languages. They appear similar to humans and speak their languages only to help facilitate killing and eating them. They don’t have human emotions, only the capacity to mimic them on purpose to manipulate people. They don’t understand human emotions at all, nor do they really care to. Humans are just food to them. They just know that saying phrase A makes human do B, and that makes the human easier to kill.

When studios repeatedly purchase IP and refuse to make works that are true to the source material that don’t make money it’s impossible to conclude that their motives are pure.
Their activist boards self evidently care about the interjection of their political agenda over any other factors or they wouldn’t be doing what they’re doing.
They aren’t even woke capitalists, they’re intersectional political activists backed by hedge funds on the warpath to destroy existing American culture.

These propagandists wouldn’t have gotten hired in Nazi Germany because they’re bad at propaganda. They’ve turned off Gen Z and younger millennials by becoming a meme and stereotype.
They’re just hacks who get hired based on their race or gender and willingness to churn out check box movies by activist boards that don’t care what the end product looks like.

Why have the property if you don't want the existing fanbase? Why is giving people what they want inherently bad to these companies?

There is a time and a place for clear good/evil stories, but they get really old/boring really quickly so it's more of a quick response to more nuanced/complex storytelling and then it loses it's value. It's like a palate cleanse between meals.

I'm not sure how Terminal List happened, other than Chris Pratt was a big name and they decided money was better than message. I'm glad they did.
But the Tom Clancy Amazon stuff is awful. Most of it has been from the exact opposite political viewpoint that a Tom Clancy book fan (not the movies) would likely have.
Does Amazon have long lasting and popular series that don't go down the wrong rabbit hole eventually? I can't think of any recent examples.
I have a certain amount of resigned skepticism about the corporate owned stuff. At the start it's often good but eventually you end up with the last season of The Boys. Iconic properties like Star Trek, Star Wars, Indiana Jones, JRR Tolkien become terrible garbage that can't be very entertaining even to the people who don't see the moral issues.
Even newer properties like The Witcher, The Wheel of Time, or Harry Potter have been dragged into this stuff and the changes have not been helpful for the fans that liked the source material.
Neither have any of the nonsensical claims about expanding the modern audience worked out. The best you can do to maximize an audience is to nail the preferences of one part of the population. That might be Barbie or it might be The Infinity War. But it is not Barbie with nudity and violence or The Infinity War with intersectionality centered.

Im quite certain that Amazon execs are knowingly, willfully, and gleefully pissing on Clancy’s grave. They know what his views were, and now they get to shite all over the man and his legacy. And make money doing it. Im sure Disney execs get the same thrill. They all know how right wing he was. Its like dancing on his corpse for a paycheck.

I was telling my 10yo nephew about Stargate SG-1 after he watched the movie and let him borrow the Buray and totally forgot about the nudity. He was hooked and fell in love as soon as he saw that episode
Best uncle ever. I didn't have the heart to tell him that was it. He did end up enjoying the series though.

And it's not like they didn't touch on that a bit with a few species that were introduced into the show and even part of the story line. They didn't have to try and make it 'modern'. It already had some background elements right there built into the canon. Just go with that.
I'm personally glad to hear the news. Let somebody pick it up who wants to make a hit and doesn't care about socio politics.
