That’s exactly what it was, they didn’t do a “modern” story so they axed it

at immediately bitching about "modern" stories when your ignorant easily rage baited arse didn't realize Stargate had already been doing "modern" stories.

I'm not sure how Terminal List happened, other than Chris Pratt was a big name and they decided money was better than message. I'm glad they did.

I think Pratt and maybe even the author maintained some pull there, officially or not. Pratt is big enough that they may have just let him have his way.

But the Tom Clancy Amazon stuff is awful.

Without Remorse. Even though it had zero to do with the novel I've got a pretty low bar for action movies and it was still absolute arse as a standalone. Comparing it to the novel just makes it worse.

This is like the mirror image of The Last Jedi. The writer of beloved features in the series didn't put it a chick in it and make her gay, cancel it

That's not what mirror image means

There is a time and a place for clear good/evil stories, but they get really old/boring really quickly so it's more of a quick response to more nuanced/complex storytelling and then it loses it's value. It's like a palate cleanse between meals.

quote:

The morality of fantasy and horror is, by and large, the strict morality of the fairy tale. The vampire is slain, the alien is blown out of the airlock, the Dark Lord is vanquished, and, perhaps at some loss, the good triumph – not because they are better armed but because Providence is on their side.
Why does the third of the three brothers, who shares his food with the old woman in the wood, go on to become king of the country? Why does Bond manage to disarm the nuclear bomb a few seconds before it goes off rather than, as it were, a few seconds afterwards? Because a universe where that did not happen would be a dark and hostile place. Let there be goblin hordes, let there be terrible environmental threats, let there be giant mutated slugs if you really must, but let there also be hope. It may be a grim, thin hope, an Arthurian sword at sunset, but let us know that we do not live in vain.” - Terry Pratchett

If you characterize the the modern remake trend and the reaction to it as simply including some homosexuality, or women in leadership/key roles (that discussion being largely absent from this conversation curiously), or having a little bit of alternative lifestyles involved, or having a non-white characters....

You are missing the point.

Yes Stargate had a lot of this - and was not woke.

what it sounds like is it wasn't going to have the modern remake version of this stuff for "new audiences" and "subverting your expectations," and so it was cut. pretty easy to decipher what that means.
