Thought the same thing about the truck. It was quiet as hell almost like they were just rolling down a hill in neutral lol

I thought that was the case.

He didn’t start it. He just hit the parking brake.

I do think it wasn’t running only rolling, but I’m sure it made a lot of racket

I assume something that simple had already taken place over the 200 plus days. I mean, they had sand poured all along the walkways, they had the wooden floors painted so you know where to step at, they had the whole lighting and camera system around the property, they had the fireworks ready to go, but you don’t think they said “If all fails, let’s meet somewhere”?

Based on their actions, and the fact that they had no idea where the kids were, no I don't think they had that kind of backup plan. If they did, they would have used it.

And the truck was definitely not running; it was simply in neutral and going downhill. No way they'd risk starting it up due to the noise.

And I agree about having more defenses around. Hell, parking several cars in the surrounding areas and having the keys to set off the alarms would be simple enough. Sure, that is nitpicking, but I am just agreeing that it seems like they could've used the diversion technique (like she did with the timer) a lot more/better. Aside from the fireworks, which I assume was to be used on an emergency basis, they didn't seem to have many.

one additional advantage to the fireworks is that it would also grab the deaf daughter's attention (at least at night)

How would you get the cars up there without making a sound?

Wouldn't the batteries eventually die if they sat for over a year without cranking the engine?

Well, if that was the case, the movie would have been pretty boring.

“They’re coming”

“Set off the alarms that keep them away”

**Movie Ends**

Just take to heart the fact that you would survive without any problems.

Saw this yesterday with the miss and we both thoroughly enjoyed it. Pretty intense the entire time and super refreshing to see a unique movie albeit it did have a signs feel to it.

I don’t get people who need every single thing explained to them for them to enjoy a movie.

There’s lots of things going on that we may simply just not know about.

We saw the town at the beginning of the movie on day 83. It was completely ransacked and there were no supplies left there. Hence suggesting the family has to fend for themselves with what they have. On day 83. Add a year to that, and we have a pretty resourceless world where the parents can’t go far in search of resources due to young children.

because the story, at its core, isn't that of alien invasion and post-apocalyptic living.

its main theme is that of family. the aliens & setting are just a way to tell that story.

That would work once before the alien destroyed the car.

I mean it's something but it's like saying the kids didn't have a meet up plan, when it was wait for mom or dad at where they told you, or apparently get to the signal silo and signal.

I'm pretty sure that much like fast zombies I'd be fricked in this world right after I let one rip. Or the latest by the second morning as I bugle called in swiftly dug hole.

For some reason I remember her getting into a bathtub full of water during the previews. Guess my eyes and brain weren't communicating with each other.

We loved the movie. And yes, that damn nail kept us in suspense!

I liked the movie. It was well directed/acted. Certainly a ton of plot holes, but an interesting premise and easy to ignore the issues with him being so prepared in certain areas while woefully underprepared in others.

That's all I'm saying. They could've easily shown more preparedness and then introducing something to throw that into disarray.

Also, we went to the 6:00 pm showing on Friday night, and there was someone in there with a fricking baby. Like a legit baby. And a toddler as well. And both were loud for most of the movie. It was annoying as frick.

That's neither here nor there, I just wanted to vent about it.

What a-hole thinks taking a baby and a toddler to a movie like this is legit? Anyone who looked at any review of the film knew going in that this movie would have very little , if any dialogue and probably a ton of quiet scenes....they should be banned from theaters hereforth for stupidity, if nothing else.

As for the flick, I loved it. One of the most entertaining horror/sci-fi movies in a long, LONG time!

Personally I think they could have just gotten the same agitated/troubled response out of the creatures by blasting some gangsta-rap at mega-wattage....but really, who wants to live a life of having to listen to that chit all the time.

I didn't care that the movie desn't explain where they came from. What did irk me was the newspaper headline that quoted the military saying "We Can't Protect You Anymore." People figured out they hunted by sound. Parachute in ghettoblasters, lure them to a spot, blast away with AC-130 gunships. Rinse and repeat. They aren't invincible. Use tanks, Bradley AFVs, or whatever. And NO ONE else thought to try to use their sensitive hearing against them?

Rant over. I'm nitpicking, but the movie was fantastic. I read a couple negative reviews and the only bad things they had to say was they didn't like that the family followed traditional gender roles.

My guess is the aliens wiped out most military bases during the invasion rather quickly

Wasn’t very good imo.

The first 10 mins were intense. Then a few mins in you learn that it’s a straight alien movie with no twists. They all go by sound.

That killed all suspense for me. I just sat there for another hour waiting for something to surprise me, and it never happened.

Liked the acting in it, but that’s about all.

This for sure

Just because something isn't shown, doesn't mean it didn't or couldn't happen
