Absolutely LOVED it. The acting all around was really, really good. As to the OP points...

I think her not fixing the nail was okay. I guess she could’ve done that instead of the laundry but for the most part she was pretty preoccupied with not dying.

I agree that I would’ve liked a lot more of the backstory. A whole movie alone could be made about how they got here.

Slight spoiler

In the end when Emily Blount and the little girl found an effective way to deal with the creatures and just said frick it and pumped the shotgun I got chills. Some might say it was a anti climatic ending but I thought it was perfect. She did a great job portraying the vulnerable yet protective mother and played the part to a t. Just great work all the way around.

The fricking nail in the stairs really really fricking drove me crazy. A mother with children who all walk around barefoot would fix that nail with a quickness. Even after she stepped on it, she didn’t do anything about

To be fair her water broke right after and the creatures were in the room after that. She didn’t exactly have time to tidy up.

Yep there were some cheers in the audience when she cocked that shotgun and basically said Let's dance alien fu--ers.

Loved it, such a fun movie to see in a packed theatre. 15 minutes into the movie it's still dead arse silent and every time someone coughs the whole theatre jumps

I always loved "Signs" and this was a better, more unique version of a similar premise. My one notable complaint is the ambiguity with regards to the creatures' backstory. Given that they are not obviously beings of higher intelligence (as opposed to just highly evolved "wild" animals) and are completely blind, it's reasonable to want to know how they got here. I mean, they clearly didn't build a spaceship and fly across the universe. It's also unclear how many are actually here now, there are 3 in close proximity to the family but in total? And how far away do you have to be in order for them to not hear you? If they kill those three and stay where they are, how can they possibly now they're safe?

Admittedly small things though and it's a very very good movie.

Loved it. A lot of fun. Everyone acted very well.

We have been getting some great sci-fi movies.

I was impressed by the girl, her facial expressions and looks of terror were remarkably convincing.

How was she gonna fix a nail she didn't know was a problem until she went into labor and stepped on it?

Lid I'm assuming was taken off by dad when he found out the sound proofing worked.

How many creatures were coming to them at the end?

Hope she had a couple boxes of shells.

Also wondering where the power was coming from?

And were the signal fires at the beginning other families? They didn’t go into much detail there either.

Loved it. It was super weird but awesome with it being so quiet for so long in a packed theater. Just increased the tension. Acting was really good, especially Emily Blunt. It’s still hard for me to not see Jim Halpert with Krasinski but that’s not his fault

As others have said a little more backstory on the event as well as a bit more on Krasinski and the deaf daughters relationship would have helped

Had to be. An extra 15 minutes would have helped for sure. But it looks like their will be a sequel so maybe we’ll find more out

I enjoyed it. The complexity was good. Acting was tremendous. Lots of holes in the story line that would have added to the movie if they’d been explained.

Reminded me a lot of the Cloverfield movies. Impressed overall, but a little too Sci-Fi for my liking.

ETA: SUPER impressed at how well they pulled off an entire movie with essentially no verbal dialogue. Outstanding acting by everyone.

They believe there are 3 monsters in the area.

And yes, I believe the other fires were other families in the area. I believe the determination of the number of monsters was with dealings with other families.

Saw it last night. I liked it, but there were things I didn’t like at all. I thought the end was cheesy and kinda silly.

I wasn’t a fan of the SFX. Thought they looked awfully cartoony.

Loved the plot though. Interesting and different from usual horror films.

Well acted pretty much all around.

I kept wondering how they had power as well.

The thing that bugged me the most was how unorganized they seemed. Like no backup plans or “if shite goes down let’s meet ______.” Stuff like that. Also thought it was a bad idea to leave for the day with your wife THAT pregnant. I’d think that once she’s a month or less out from a due date, you’d want to stick around just in case she goes into early labor.

All in all, I enjoyed it. It was different. Definitely would recommend.

I assume something that simple had already taken place over the 200 plus days. I mean, they had sand poured all along the walkways, they had the wooden floors painted so you know where to step at, they had the whole lighting and camera system around the property, they had the fireworks ready to go, but you don’t think they said “If all fails, let’s meet somewhere”?

They did have backup plans. They even briefly discuss the backup plans. I think the movie shows they were trained.

All that surveillance and lighting and they couldn’t set up a remote operated loudspeaker?

Someone had to physically go light some fireworks?

I found it absurd how the military or an armed populace couldn’t put up a fight. The newspaper covers obviously indicated it was a global event.

Helicopters with machine gun would own.

Solar panels were visible in a few shots.

They didn’t belabor the point....but they were in a zero sum survival situation.

He wasn’t going off on an elective trade/scavinging trip. He was going on a more or less routine fishing trip.

Things I wondered: noise sensitivity seemed to bounce a bit. For instance, harvesting those fields, even manually, seems to push the threshold of “We can only make the sounds of barefoot on dry sand.” And forget about extracting that silo of grain. (Although maybe it sat there since before the beginning)
