The problem was two fold:

When they aren’t incapacitated by sound or you are trying to hide, they are moving almost faster than the eye can see.

Those plates are armored, protecting against all but the most carefully aimed shots (the ending shotgun blast worked because the plates were lifted, exposing tissue underneath)

So.

Helicopter machine gun wouldn’t help, even if they could track.

Stalemate until the chopper has to land.

found it absurd how the military or an armed populace couldn’t put up a fight. The newspaper covers obviously indicated it was a global event.

Helicopters with machine gun would own.

How do we know the military and such didn’t do some damage? It’s not like they were in New York City. Some small midwestern town wouldn’t be high on the list for the military

Well there was really no back story in the movie. What if there were thousands or hundreds of creatures when they first showed up on earth. They killed pretty quick and were pretty agile. Maybe our military was overwelmed in the beginning. I mean there were 3 creatures out in the middle of nowhere but we really don't know.

The exact way they track once they head something was a bit unclear. They would know the general area but if the sound stops how do they pinpoint exactly where you are? Echolocation isn't particularly effective in locating a five foot person in a home with numerous objects.

I don’t think so

Having an easy, repeatable way to create a noise diversion would be pretty high on my survival list.

She did it with a kitchen timer but having something outside, preferably far away from the house, would have been ideal

Who is to say that they didn’t at one time?

Remember, this is 450+ days in.

How hard would it be to find speakers and how often do you think they lost them in the beginning?

It actually seemed like it was electromagnetic as well as sound since lights and other electronic sources would shift in activity when they appeared.

Not to meation if you want to be nit picky, consider how hard it would be to acquire sufficient cabling to place the loudspeaker far enough away from the settlement that you get a net benefit.

I know if flies in the face of a small budget film, but I wish there would've been at least one shot of a rendering of what the creatures "saw" when they were hunting, Matrix-style.

The absence of the neighbors' signal fires indicated to me that the aliens got them over time.

One of the newspapers shown called them Dark Angels.

What absence are we talking about? The night of the events?

The impression I got was that it was a brief flame right at sunset to let the neighborhood know they are still around.

The fact that the kids couldn’t keep a fire going for more than a few minutes and the tower not being set up for long term burning in general implies that.

The absence of the signal fires later. I assumed the DAs got them.

I'm not reading the thread because I haven't seen it yet. Going today. But Krasinski is pretty much guaranteed to start getting some movie offers if he hasnt already. 50 million dollar opening weekend for a 17 million dollar film and rave reviews. He'll be a name in the directing world.

God bless horror man. It is IN and I love it.

Not giving anything up but the ending is very open for a sequel and the box office all but guarantees it.Let's
hope he's involved directing and writing it.

You could see one of the newspapers said something like “bullets have no effect”. There outer shell must protect them

II didn’t love it as much as most on here, granted, ii did go into it with a massive hangover and a slow burn horror movie isn’t the best thing to watch in that condition.

Did anybody have a problem with krasinski sacrificing himself? It seems like he could have tried a couple things before he did that. Like throw something to create a noise diversion or at least try to use the axe.

Thought it was good but the first half was really slow. I’ve had trouble with these types of slow burn horrors in the past. (The witch, it comes at night). II can see why it scored so highly though

I think he knew he was a goner with that gaping gut wound, so he felt his best play was to draw their attention and sacrifice himself to give his kids their best shot at getting away.

Yeah, that’s what I thought. He as in tremendous pain and knew he was going to die no matter what so he wanted to make the biggest impact he could.

He was already dead, dude had a huge hole in his abdomen and with the lack of medical care he wouldnt have lasted more than an hour or two. Almost better to go out that way than bleed to death, and he saved his kids in the process.

It was really the only decision a person can make in that situation.

Why did the kids take the truck back to the house?

Seems like that would have been especially noisy with that other creature right there. I thought they were going to try to run it over.
