The first 10 mins were intense. Then a few mins in you learn that it’s a straight alien movie with no twists. They all go by sound.
We learned they go by sound in the trailers, that was never supposed to be some big reveal.
A movie can be suspenseful without twists

While part of me would have been pissed at someone hollering in THIS movie, I seriously doubt I would not have lost it over that comment...

Now that would be amazing.....seeing as how he passed in 2005

wow, I guess the guy in the theater thought it as blue and screamed. It looked so much like blue that I thought it was too!!

Saw it last night, really really enjoyed the film. Very suspenseful with enough jump thrills to give you a little payoff. Music and sound was top notch.
To the mom not doing anything about the nail, when it happened, she was already trying to figure out if a creature was coming. Pretty reasonable she forgot about fixing it right then. After that, she was pretty much either passed out or delirious for a while. Now, I definitely agree when they all went down there at the end, she should have at least pointed it out to the kids at that point.
I agree with whoever said they wished Jim would have figured out their weakness. Have him witness what happened in the grain silo and it eventually click when they are trapped in the car. He can still sacrifice himself, but try and get the daughter to realize what it is, then it finally clicks to her int he basement or something.

My guess is the aliens wiped out most military bases during the invasion rather quickly
Same. I'm guessing things got decimated pretty quickly. Would be interesting to slow the movie down and see if you can see dates on the news papers.
As to the family's preparations and defenses, I'm assuming their place to meet up was that sound proof room. However, the kids would stay put if the lights were red signaling danger. They also had the top of the grain silo fire signal, where they were going to wait for the parents. Unfortunately it just ran out of fuel. They also knew the boy was at the rockets, and said he knows to stay put and hidden. So, they had a couple options, things just went to shite. I do agree that maybe a couple other diversionary tactics would have been good to see at least early on, but overall I was fine with their level of defense.

She turned back and pointed to it to the son, I believe

SHE turned around to help the son, but I don’t think she really pointed out the nail at all. She definitely didn’t help the daughter or point it out to her.

I enjoyed the movie a lot but had some complaints:
1- Why was the nail pointing the wrong way?
2- How did they poke quiet enough to get Emily Blount pregnant without alerting the monsters
3- Why didn't they acquire some acoustic tiles and make a soundproof room?
4- My least favorite part was that the girl went in the basement for the first time in her life under extremely stressful circumstances and knew what all the equipment would do and how to use it.
I also wish there was an origin or an ending....just one of those two.

I took it as the laundry bag got snagged on the nail, like it wasn't hammered in straight, and she pulled the nail up like that. Only way it makes sense to me.

Wouldn't be that hard. Maybe at the waterfall or something?

Where would they get that?

She knew what a microphone was and guessed at a volume knob? That didn't seem that unreasonable.

he fricking nail in the stairs really really fricking drove me crazy
It has been there I'm guessing. They all ignored it? It was the only part that drove me nuts.

The nail was bent over until her laundry bag snagged it and pulled it up.

by hammering it down? when the aliens were on her property, in the houses, she was supposed to hammer the nail back down?

Yea, wasn't a great way to do it. Probably get some pliers and bend it down. Not something she could have probably done quickly or easily though with the alien there.

They were making their own “soundproof” room with the newspaper and glue roller on the walls, sorta like paper mache
And they were in a small rural town, who knows how far they would have had to walk to find a store that had acoustic tiles

I am not a fan of scary movies, usually avoid them, but with moviepass, why not. This movie is legit. It’s fun, it’s well done, tied together well, no glaring flaws. Go to this movie and enjoy yourself.

She was ~11-12 when the disaster happened.
And I’m sure that’s the same rig he has used in the past to let her feel music. He owned it already for a reason.
Pretty sure he isn’t hauling something as bulky as a speaker on his back from town in a situation where sound is death.
Your plot hole is only applied to the younger siblings.

She first realized the nail was an issue with the laundry bag. She should have fixed it then.

if you remember, she was carrying two things awkwardly up the stairs (and was about an hour away from giving birth)
if you follow your logic, you are saying she stepped on the nail after already having the knowledge that it was sticking straight up
Posted on 4/13/18 at 3:36 pm to joeyb147
I can’t say for sure she knew it was a nail even though that would make sense. She did know that there was an issue with the stairs I.e. there’s s giant spliter, nail, or other item. She recognized there was something wonky going on. Then, later in the movie she was so nevervous she forgot about it.
