1.5 Billion people watched Messi win the World Cup in 2022.
The most watched WNBA game happened in 1997 with 5 million people tuning in.
I didn’t say they should get paid as much as Messi
I said the most popular WNBA players should make more than the other ones

Where's Tx Tiger and Tacky to weigh in on this?

I’d argue that most professional leagues lose money in most years, but players in those leagues still fight for their pay.
Do you have data to support this? MLB? NFL? NBA? Are they losing money?

Everyone keeps referring to the new TV deal but that is not why they lost money. Players insisted on NBA-level perks like chartered flights and so on. Those increased costs dramatically and took a $10 Million annual loss and brought it to $40 Million last season and estimated $50 million this year.
The new media rights deal will bring in significant cash, but at most with the current modem gets them to break even and likely still lose a bit. If you start paying players more, then you are guaranteed to get no profit and likely significant losses.
This still includes money from the NBA being put in as a supplement. Add in that they didn’t actually earn that media deal and instead had the NBA leverage their own media rights to get the. The deal, and you realize why this league is not sustainable without entitlement from the NBA.
It’s as bad as the women’s US soccer team trying to play semantics and ignoring reality to get their share for which the Men’s team players now basically pay the women’s team with their revenue.

I hate that I want this to fail. It’s none of my business, and I don’t watch, so I shouldn’t care. That being said, they’re trying to force the public into liking and watching their product, and clamoring for more money despite losing cash each year. None of this makes sense. It wouldn’t make sense in the business world, or in any other aspect of life. How anybody can go along with this is mind blowing.

Caitlin Clark, Angel Reese, Paige Buekers, A’ja Wilson, and a few others should be making way more than $78k. Clark should probably be making millions.
ETA - I'm sure some of them make a little more money on endorsements and that's fine. However, saying that they should be paid more by the Section 8 league is ridiculous and makes no sense.

They play 40 games at 40 minutes and already fly Charter thanks to the Golden girl.
If the WNBA were a,Circus (management, leadership and most players certainly are) it would've closed its tent in 1998.
As other talking heads have said, its the most unlikable enitled sports League top to bottom in the Herstory of sports.
(Only one worthy to wear that shirt with a straight face because she's 95% responsible for the %1000 increase in demo/ viewership)
The rest of the League can take their grief to Russia...
WNBA players are advocating for a 50/50 split of incremental revenue rather than the current less than 10% split....
The NBA should give them 50% of the losses each season which is negative $25 million a year.
3 yeas ago, no one with a straight face in the WNBA would be making these delusional demands but the League is clutching at the Caitlin Clark fever to cash in while despising her all the same.

I was completely apathetic to the WNBA for as long as it’s existed until Clark and Reese entered the league. Now I’ve shed that apathy for disdain. It has become nothing but a political soap opera. There is zero entertainment value in the actual sport, imo, so they’ve used all this peripheral shite to bring eyes to the league. It’s been marginally successful, and now these bitches have been given a gigantic injection of entitlement. What should actually happen?

They have a new TV deal kicking in, and the league is about to be pretty profitable. Not to mention the influx of $250 million franchise fees for the new teams. The players are looking to get a higher share of the revenue coming in next year.
They should go on strike

A long time ago I seem to remember people saying the members of Augusta didn’t have “dues”. At the end of every year it was evenly split among members. Do that for the “W”. If there is a profit make the split 50/50. If there is a shortfall players will owe the owners. Problem solved

no one watches the shite
It was pretty stagnant over the last decade (and prior tbh); however, their viewership increased by 21% for last season. ESPN saw a 170% increase in viewership and CBS reported a record high 1.1 million viewers for the games. (per Google/Forbes) They are experiencing growth, which is obviously a good thing.
The NBA wasn't profitable until the 80's and now the league has some of the most ridiculous contracts in sports outside of soccer.
Now, will the WNBA see that type of success long term? I doubt it. BUT, they've caught fire with Caitlin Clark and the players' hatred of her. If women's basketball at both the college and professional level can maintain the drama and market its stars properly starting in college, they could make something that is eventually profitable down the road in my opinion.
The WNBA also needs to just go all out on marketing to women. Get your prominent players on social media pushing drama (Clark, Cunningham, Reese, bitter old players like Taurasi, etc..). Get females involved in it. They'll buy the merch and they'll watch. Any time spent marketing to men is a waste of money.

They don't deserve to make a dime. Their league was established as, and continues to be nothing more than a political statement.

Do you think they should just sit in the background and try to do nothing to grow their sport? The reality is, if they can get people watching the games, they get bigger & bigger media deals; then they may finally start making money.
The killer part for them is they agreed to the CBA which caped the percentage of revenues they receive when certain triggers are reached. From the little I have read, they have not reached those trigger points; therefore, they are limited to 25% of revenues. Speculation has been that they want a deal similar to NBA (& NFL) where the salary cap would be equivalent to 50% of revenues, with no benchmark requirements. Looks like the total salaries equate to around $20M; so, they would need to find a way to cover $70M ($50M projected loses & additional $20M for pay).
Sounds like it is possible that the new TV deal & franchise fees give them this money. Their CBA is set to expire, so why wouldn't they start putting out demands now?

The WNBA loses money but the players I listed bring in significantly more than $78k in revenue. If I’m a great employee who’s bringing in 5X the revenue of my peers, I certainly wouldn’t be happy making less money because they aren’t pulling their weight.
Only one answer. Those players should try out for the NBA. Problem solved.

Agree, they need to push the magic/bird Jordan/pistons type rivalry but the problem is the lesbos are too bitter to focus on the bottom line vs hating a white, heterosexual. The only thing that will kill this league is CC continuing to kick the normal, conservative heterosexual nuts. That will turnoff a lot of her base
