With college football starting Saturday what are your tips for betting on College Football

1. Don't ever bet a game where your favorite team is involved. Hard to be impartial.

Look for big discrepancies in rushing offense and rushing defense, bet on the team with a good rushing offense as long as that team isn't completely 1 dimensional.

Watch the games.
Understand Football.
Look for match ups. Like if one team is really bad at stopping the run and the other team is really good at running the running team usually wins. (G5 level especially)
Understand G5 levels of bad. Because there are levels too it.
When a big favorite is down in the 1Q live bet it. It usually swings back around and you get a great line. (Sometimes it doesn't and you just live with it.)
Don't bet more than you can lose and enjoy it. When you start chasing losses you make bad decisions.

In short don't bet unless you are prepared to lose the money! I have my own prediction algo's and I can tell you from over 35 different scenarios (all killed with random runs) looking for an edge, nothing beats the market consistently. I will have one season with a nice edge then backtest against 3-5 years of data and it has failed everytime. Some good articles out there about modeling.

Good call. Bad MAC teams are really, really bad and it usually takes bettors a few weeks to catch on.
South Carolina -36.5 vs Kent State might be a decent Week 1 play, for instance, and it has nothing to do with South Carolina. Kent State played three games vs P5 teams last season and lost by the following scores:
62-14 at Texas Tech
66-10 at Florida State
44-0 at Oklahoma

Can’t believe people still watch college football in 2026. The CFB we knew and loved died years ago and is just a crappy version of the NFL with 1 year mercenaries. To each his own I guess.

The line is the mathematical point where money is flowing 50/50 in equal directions. If the money is lopsided in one direction, the line moves to rebalance it.
If you actually want a prayer at having an edge, you need to be prepared to jump on early lines that were a little off haven't had a chance to adjust.
You also need to be prepared to bet on obscure, low profile games if that's where the smart money is.
And if there are no good edges, you need to be prepared to just sit that week out. Otherwise you are just betting for the sake of betting.
If you just bet for fun, you're essentially playing roulette in another form. You're betting on ~50/50 chances, which is a long term loser thank to the vig fees.

For real though take advantage of early season games (weeks 0-3) as Vegas doesn’t have a ton of knowledge yet especially with the roster turnover these days. Once they get it dialed in by mid season it’s money making time for them.
