Why do white American athletes not seem up to par compared to European counterparts?

I understand that. Why is America not producing skilled players like the Europeans?

Why is there not an American Doncic or Jokic or Dirk, etc?

They have the want to be good. Americanos have the want to be Stars/rich.

I read somewhere recently (maybe it was posted here idk) that europeans focus so much on practice/drills from an early age, whereas America has seemed to gravitate towards playing a maximum amount of games and less time for drilling to become more skilled. Think travel ball tournaments and AAU tournaments every weekend. Kids in the euro soccer academies are drilling and playing situations for hours per day starting pretty young. None of the american sports require that.

Maybe all that is BS but I could see that being a factor in why not one dude on our team has the touch or handle as a lot of guys on the teams that have advanced.

I'd argue there are two different development models

The Euros focus on skill.

Americans focus on competing and winning.

So is it any surprise when it comes down to the very end that Euros are viewed as highly skilled but soft and weak, and American players are viewed as assassins with the killer instinct.

To answer the question about white American players, lack of opportunities. From the time they first started hooping a black player was picked ahead of them for a team because of "athletic upside". So white ballers try to compete with them in that area and play that game. That's how the game here is coached.

Here’s a reason for basketball. The European game is more fundamental and cerebral where the American game is about speed, flash and athleticism. The Europeans are showing the fundamental game is just as affective as the athletic game.

Their youth programs - emphasize not just 3’s, but MID range jumpers, pump fakes, pump passes,ghost step, the illusions, along with ball control, free throws, etc. The mid range shot has been irrelevant in US basketball for 40 years. It’s a 3, a dunk, or inside the paint play.
Our fans want to see acrobatic, high flying, athletic plays. 2 points is 2 points in Europe.
White kids in the US see our style of play and what brings the oo’s and ahh’s in the crowd and say, “ok, I can’t do that”. Quit in middle school. They didn’t have a pure basketball fundamental’s coach to help overcome the lack of athleticism. Plus, I’m going to have to work twice as hard and I’m going to do that.

I think the pendulum is swinging back somewhat in basketball, and that’s completely due to the Euro style of play.
Don’t get me wrong, black basketball players will always dominate the sport. Only a fool would argue. I think we all like to watch someone make crazy, athletic plays that we know 99% of the population couldn’t pull off. It’s like watching Superman.

Europe took our old 1950-1980 basketball coaching and fundamental books and applied it to their game.
Our coaching system don’t need to rely on the fundamentals, the illusions, the fakes, the simplicity of just shooting a ball into a basket. We rely on our players overall athleticism for a competitive advantage. White kids can’t/won’t thrive in that system.

Yes and video games or don't play sports.

Because we have so many sports.
