What Was the Toughest Football Drill You Participated In?

I'm old, but almost 50 years ago in Spring practices we used to do "gut drill" (4 on 4 in a single column) and "meat grinder" (4 on 1 - taught you to engage the first blocker and shed him and then another immediately behind him and on).

Not football but running laps around the gym wearing a teammate as a backpack in wrestling practice.

Probably stretching

Wasn’t a drill but we’d lock the doors of the wrestling room and have straight up fights. Basically original ufc style no weight class no rules really. This was in 1997 and 1998 during spring practice. Coaches weren’t involved but they knew.

I would choose Oklahoma drill or any tackling drill over running 110’s everyday of the week

One of the worst conditioning days for me was when we had to run 8 200s. I remember throwing up after the 6th one it was so hot outside.

Bull in the ring. It’s now outlawed

This. Plenty of players got waylaid by this one

I didn't really care for the Bear Crawl.
We had to do that every day at camp. Camp was basically hell week where they would find out what kind of shape you were in. There would be playbook install also but mainly they would run the shite out of you.
They made us do it occasionally if we played like shite after the season started too. Which unfortunately was almost every week in 11th grade...........

Yep. First week back we would run 110's. Timed by position groups. Second week started the 220s. Those first couple days of the 2nd week you could really tell who had at least tried to stay in shape. The rest of us were puking our asses off after 5 or 6 of the 220s.
Brutal.

The gauntlet where there were 3 defenders stacked on behind each other and as a running back you had to try to get by all 3 without any blocking.

Was in summer conditioning prior to the season by 120 yards of up downs / burpees with broad jump forward.

Pushing a five man sled in 100 degree heat with no water breaks because water to make you weak. Can't believe we didn't have anyone die of heat stroke doing two a days in the 1980's. Plus doing pushups with fire ants bitting the crap out of you.

We had an assistant coach watch as we had a challenge who could put our hand in an ant pile longest and he was laughing and encouraging it.
That shite gets you fired now.

Most guys hated Gassers. I hated Bull in the Ring. Nothing was worse than Crab Walks in full pads and helmets.

I played college football for two years at a NAIA school now D2. I will never forget the first day of two a days we probably had 120 players out there, many being walk-ons. We were in the first session of calisthenics and about 10 of them walked off. By the time we were done with the last set another 20 walked off. They were dropping like flies.
