that’s probably bc the only person on the planet who thought JFF’s game would transition to the NFL was the Browns dipshit owner, who pressured his GM into drafting JM.

Literally haven’t heard this name in like 10 years.

Looking at his wiki he fell off very quickly. He was only on the titans roster for 3 years and vanished.

And the Cowboys dumbass owner. His sons overruled him on drafting JFF and some reports said they physically restrained him.

I believe he gets mentioned by people old enough to remember. The Packers picked him #2 overall in 1989.

Their more forgotten bust was Brent Fullwood out of Auburn #4 overall in 1987.

A running back probably would have been on the downside in 1996 anyway but imagine the Packers picked something other than a running back with the 87 pick plus a real #2 overall in 1989. They did this in 1996 even having busted those 2:

(from Wiki 1996 Packers)
"Additionally, the Packers had the NFL's highest-scoring offense (456) and allowed the fewest points on defense (210). Green Bay was the first team to accomplish both feats in the same season since the undefeated 1972 Miami Dolphins. They finished the season with the number one ranked offense, defense, and special teams. They also set a then NFL record for the fewest touchdowns allowed in a 16-game season, with 19. The Packers also allowed the fewest yards in the NFL and set a record for punt return yardage. Brett Favre won his second straight MVP award while also throwing for a career-high and league-leading 39 touchdown passes."

probably cost them the 1997 championship given how close they were (lost 24-31 to Denver in '98 SB)

Spot on - a little before my time. I saw this yesterday and immediately thought - "sucks for the team that drafted second"

ETA the post from FB for context: Four of the first five picks in the 1989 #NFLDraft went on to be Hall of Famers.

Also, Dion Jordan. He is the ultimate cautionary tale of putting too much stock in his combine and ignoring his mediocre college game tape.

This hurt the Dolphins so bad. They traded up, desperately needed an OL, everyone thought it was for Lane Johnson.

If I’m a GM, I’m not even factoring in combine results. I’m interviewing players, interviewing their teammates and families and watching game tape. Are they a good dude who makes plays or not?

LSU's own Glenn Dorsey. Guy was all-world in college. Got drafted in 2008 with the 5th overall pick. Scheme changes did him no favors turning him into a 3-4DE when he was better suited as a 4-3 3 tech. Played 8 seasons so not a humongous bust, but only 6 total sacks and never more than 2 in a single season, just never lived up to 1st round slot let alone top 5.

I’d argue he isn’t the biggest bust the Browns had that draft

I think people misremember Manziel getting drafted at the top of the draft but the browns actually took Justin Gilbert at 8 and then traded back up to take Manziel at 22

Gilbert washed out nearly as hard as Manziel from what I remember

There’s 2-3 1st rd QB busts per year. Hard to stand out in a group like that lol. My entry is the kid from UCF a few years back. Drafted by the Jags.
Blake Bortles. Dude looked like a stud coming outta school

So how do we classify Blaine Gabbert? It was known pretty quick he wasn’t worth the pick, yet he just got a ring at 33yo backing up Mahomes lol

Ah he started an AFCCG. Wasn’t good but not a bust on the level of JaMarcus/Leaf
