They are paying arena costs but have none or little capital expenditures in that asset class. Only half play in nba arenas anyway from what I’ve read.

Indiana Fever star rookie Caitlin Clark pushed back against online commenters who have used her name in discussions to denigrate other WNBA players, saying any racist or misogynistic comments are "not acceptable."

"People should not be using my name to push those agendas. It's disappointing. It's not acceptable," Clark said Thursday when asked about the comments. "... Treating every single woman in this league with the same amount of respect, I think, it's just a basic human thing that everybody should do."

Due to Clark's fame, along with being a white basketball player, her name has been brought up in culture wars and online debates, including why she was left off the Team USA Olympic basketball roster and reacting to a number of hard fouls committed against the rookie early in her WNBA career.

Meh, I expect this will change in the coming years. You can’t expect them to turn a profit immediately.

She's being pressured by the media to side with the left wing perspectives commonly held about women and women's sports. The media always forces notable figures to take sides and especially so if there's a chance they may be seen as a beacon of light to the right wing philosophies and traditionalist.

The WNBA has always been seen a league of left wing LGBTQ women of color. This is the progressives home turf and Caitlin Clark's existence, even without explicit political allegiance, is upsetting their reputation as a feminist lesbian women of color owned league.

Her simply being white and not lesbian is an affront to what makes them feel comfortable.

To counter this the media will force her to say things that signal her allegiance to the progressive mafia, i.e. quotes about equity and gender pay gap and LGBTQ support. Watch, they'll force the struggle session over time.

It's like clockwork. Don't think for a second this isn't about left wing activists feeling their property is being threatened.

Actually, I do now more than ever. Russia would have loved to have humiliated her during her incarceration. They didn't, so that makes me lean to she's just an unfortunate manly female.

how many business out there operate at a loss and still pay people?

example - DraftKings reported a net loss of $802.1 million for the year ending December 31, 2023. Plenty of the employees make WAY more than $100k/yr.

$50 mil isn't that much

I still think the WNBA is pretty terrible to watch.

On a per player basis it is staggering to lose 50M

It’s like 500k per player down the tube.

It’s basically a UBI experiment with totally meaningless work required

Only 10% of revenue goes to players. So like 5 million split among all the players down the tube.

You seem to be of the belief the league exists for the players. It doesn't, it exists to make the owners money. They grift money from the NBA, Nike, other "investors", pocket some, and pay the players 10%, then write it as a loss.

I don’t know how anyone can see the video of Griner, topless at the pool, and conclude “that’s a woman”.

OK, now add local stations and the national stations in Canada. And also compare attendance.

$50M is projected this year. from article "Commissioner Adam Silver said in 2018 that the WNBA loses about $10 million per year, that would amount to at least $200 million and upwards of $260 million in losses since the league's inception in 1997."

so 260 +50 = 310 from 1997 - 2024. avg out to $11.5/yr

12 teams x 11 players = 132

11.5 / 132 =$88k per player per year. this doesn't include every employee of the WNBA

draftkings has 4200 employees so just off 2023 numbers thats $190k per employee and its double that in 2022.

again the wnba is terrible to watch but the numbers don't add up for anyone to be mad it for existing. hopefully the daily wnba threads will stop since everyone thinks its so terrible.

I can't wait to see them squirm when a trans dude wants to join the WBNA. That'll really tie their narratives in a knot.

I was talking about quality of life.

Clark basically signed up to be gang raped in Prison by jealous angry lesbians. Who needs that? She had other options than to be abused in this racist, sexualized identity, jealous, toxic subsidized failure of a League with no likeable women that are relatable to the general public until she came along. Miss me on your argument.

No shite.

The WNBA could sell out completely for the next few years and still probably have never turned a profit in its history. Hence why I get irritated at the people whining about contract differences between NBA picks and WNBA picks.

One makes a profit. The other is a charity case funded by the profitable one.
