Clark should leave just to frick them. Go with Ice Cube.

Cube ever gets a billionaire, who just loves bball, to back the sport, he could take some NBA players out of the league.

30mil for 82 games
20-25mil+ for 20-30? games

they could cherry pick the league of stars

I think CC should just get nude and profit. No one cares that she can dribble a basketball.

You’re arguing a very small time frame. I’m arguing long term. Also, historically NHL had a much better viewership vs WNBA. Let’s discuss in 10 years and see the data then. WNBA WILL BE LOW.

I agree with you, the wnba sucks and I'll never watch. They are drawing small time drama viewership because their new TV contract is due up. I watch almost every NHL playoff game, I will never watch a wnba game playoff or not.

Im just pointing out to the folks that keep saying they'll never make money that their viewers are going up so somebody must be watching, even if it's empty bar tvs, someone will give them money

Hell they just need to show increased viewership to get more investors to dump money into the league for the owners to pocket

Sweet baby Angel gets no coverage until it's about losing money.

These girls with all the eyes on them should gtfo and do their thing. They are being used. And used poorly.

Women make up half the population, perhaps they should start pulling their weight and supporting their fellow women. You’re strong women, you don’t need a men’s league to keep you afloat, Queens.

the WNBA has proven that they are willing to cut off their nose to spite their face (despite the fact that they have never paid a bill in 25+ years, the NBA pays all of their debts.)

It doesn't expire until next year. they are currently getting $60 million per year and are seeking $100 million more per year.

Why would anyone pay that much? Sure, there is an increase of popularity right now, but next year, who is to say anyone will care? Most people still don’t care as it is and this country is built on news cycles. What everyone talks about now will be forgotten in a month.

Paying a $160 million for those rights is like having an old, shitty outdated $100,000 house, slapping a new coat of paint on it (Caitlin Clark) and bumping the price up to a million.

The NHL TV deal they signed 3 years ago is worth $665 million.

Their viewer numbers leading into that deal were
quote:

The 2020/2021 National Hockey League (NHL) regular season achieved an average total audience delivery (TAD) of 391,000 viewers across NBC and NBCSN, according to Sports Business Journal (SBJ).

Now look at WNBA numbers for LAST season
quote:

Across ABC, ESPN, ESPN2, CBS, ION and NBA TV, WNBA games are averaging 1.32 million viewers, nearly tripling last season's average of 462,000, the league said Tuesday.\

so we know the numbers will be higher than 462k this year average, which is more than NHL viewers leading into their TV deals worth $625 million

you really don't think someone will pay the WNBA 1/3rd of what the NHL got for numbers that are higher and with the massive inflation we have going on making dollars worth less?

use some common sense, the WNBA was trying to split from the NBA TV deal and Adam Silver came out strongly against it. Do you think if they thought they were losing money on WNBA TV rights they would fight to keep them paired with the NBA?

quit thinking with your emotions and do some math.

I think a lot of y'all really look at this very myopically. The WNBA was never gonna make a profit. Everybody has always known that. It's not its own entity. It's a part of the NBA. which subsidies it in order to grow the game to get more female fans to tune into the NBA. I don't know the numbers, but I bet female interest in the NBA has increased substantially enough to more than make up for the WNBA losses.

It''s the same argument when people don't think universities should invest in womens' college sports. Or baseball. People thought paying Mulkey what they did was outrageous. And they may have not made a profit like it's typically reported, you can't buy the advertising LSU Women's basketball gets. Angel, Flo, Kim are all over tv. On Sportscenter. 1st take. It increases the overall LSU brand. Which, Tate and Woodward are in alignment that the Athletic Department is the front door to the university. The bigger the LSU brand, the more attractive it is as a university. The more enrollment goes up. The more females who grew up watching LSU softball or basketball or gymnastics and[ falll in love with the university are more likely to go to school there. More out of state students paying higher tuition. Which leads to higher standards, higher tuition, a bigger student body, more research grants, the greater value of the diplomas, the overall health of the university. Look at what happened to Bama's school after Saban got there. It's about increasing the brand of LSU and leveraging that on the academic side. Excellence in all things LSU is great for Louisiana State University. And it starts with sports because that's the most visible part of any university. Take a macro view of alll this an it makes a lot more sense than the narrow minded, myopic way most of you tend to look at it.

the majority of their money is from the TV contracts like every other sport nowadays. It doesn't expire until next year. they are currently getting $60 million per year and are seeking $100 million more per year. It's weird that people expect them to make more money this year based off more viewers. sure they have a couple extra thousand people in the arena, but that isn't gonna make an extra $50 million.
The TV contract getting ready to expire is the reason there’s such a big push to make them relevant this year. It’s ridiculous how much WNBA shite is pushed on social media trying to get people to watch and react. All the hype is because of Caitlyn Clark but it isn’t sustainable as it is a shite product as a whole.

I don't buy that it's a "shite product". Competitiveness is relative. Why does the Little League World Series draw enough people to warrant its coverage? I mean you can't tell me it's a great product. The College World Series is on television. A team in the Florida State League would blow out the winner of the CWS. Sure Paul Skenes might have beaten a team in from the Florida State League in one game, but in a 3-5-7 game series a Florida State League team would win easily.

The worst team in the NFL would easily beat Michigan in a football game.

It's about competitive games and worthwhile storylines or human interest when it comes to sports. Pro Wrestling figured that out a long time ago.

I'll watch the WNBA if there's nothing else on or if Caitlin Clark is playing. You need to see the shower video leak. She's an attractive young woman. Sure she's no Kate Upton, but back in the day if she in full make-up and was into you at Fred's or Sports you'd take her home.
