Weird thread

I’d never get excited if Georgia state or Georgia tech lost a game.

LSU fans are an odd bunch. They claim to not care about “that juco in Lafayette” yet many of them just one year after their 2019 NC season seemed to spend as much time on threads about the Cajuns as they did on threads about their own team.

I doubt either of those schools are quite as arrogant for little to no reason as Lafayette

The techsters used to be. Now they've been beaten down so badly that they don't seem to care anymore. Kinda sad

Sadly, this is pretty much what happened to ULM about 20 years ago. The school and Monroe in general has become so immune to losing that the town basically has written off the school. Monroe worries more about what LSU is doing than it does what ULM is doing and for that I actually applaud Tech and ULL fans. At least they are somewhat passionate about their school. Most ULM fans and alumni could give a rats arse other than Pedro. I give you a ton of credit brother, you are carrying the torch.

My interest in the Louisiana Warhawk program has absolutely zero to do with my LSU fandom.

I’m way more passionate than I should be I feel like.

There’s others on here that were there with me that are still pretty passionate just not quite as vocal as me.

I’m with Pedro! A lot of alums from my generation care a whole lot. 10 years ago, we had a pretty good team. Pretty good attendance that year as well. Winning fills seats.

yea the university has done a lot trying to get people back the last few years but at the end of the day you have to win. We have a chance right now with Tech and Lafayette being down to start recruiting hard to get the talent we need to be competitive. Hopefully it happens but I’ll stay cautious until I see it happen

I began to “pull” for ULM when Tech dodged them in order to get into a better bowl than the independence Bowl (they got passed over and ended up sitting at home).

We are about the same age. I got my undergrad degree from NLU. I am sorry (honestly I'm really not) calling the school ULM. It will always be NLU to me. We were winners when I was there. NLU had just won the NC and it was actually cool to go to school there. NLU was putting people in the league left and right and people from Monroe actually picked NLU over LSU and Tech. Go figure. Then 2 things took place. The first was the jump to Div 1 which was nothing more than trying to stay relevant with Tech, which was a mistake. NLU was not a legit Div 1 level school and will never be. They can get athletes but not the kind to replace the starters that get beat up and injured from playing a Bama or Texas. Then the school rebranded itself which would have been ok until they let ULL just own the Louisiana name without so much as a fight. Then football went into the abyss for the next 30 years due to the leadership at the school pretty much abandoning athletics. You mentioned a winning season. It was 10 years ago. 10 fricking years ago. However, you would think the school leadership would remember what happened in 2012 when people came to games and attendance jumped. Like you said, winning makes people happy. However, that happiness faded into 9 more years of losing and a few more coaching and AD changes. We are now 2 years into Bowden's tenure and things look to have changed. I hope. I like him a lot. He goes to my church back home in Monroe. The only thing I wish the school would do more of is make recruiting Monroe kids a priority. There is a ton of talent in the NE LA area and not all of them will end up at LSU or Bama. I know that the HC job is almost a win at all costs right now ordeal and you need instant coffee players and those are either Juco's or transfers but damn it would be cool to see ULM play mostly players from Ouachita, Neville, WM, Bastrop, etc....

Sorry, rant over.

Why has ESPN bought into this UL thing?

I was unreasonably pissed off when I saw “Louisiana vs UL-Monroe” scroll on the bottom of ESPN this weekend.

I somewhat disagree with the div 1 jump being a bad thing. ULM get a lot more benefits$ playing in div 1 which they badly need due to a low endowment/alumni support. The biggest issue was the prior 2 university presidents alienating the school/athletics from the hometown. For example my family always donated to ULM athletics but ULM quit reaching out. From what I've heard that was a normal occurrence. Number two the school as a whole under Bruno catered more to international students plus put athletics on the backburner. Hired Scott McDonald who is a fricking banker from Monroe with zero experience running a college athletic department, just because he played baseball for NLU in the 80s. I respect Bruno for getting the campus to look infinitely better than it did in the 90/00s but other aspects of the school suffered greatly IMO.

Also Hopefully now that Jamie Mayo is out as Mayor of Monroe we can see more cooperation between the city and ULM. There should be ULM signs/flags all over the city. They made a good step with the new mayor installing the little ULM banners on a significant portion of the light posts.

You know the problem I see with ULM?

Most of the ULM fans here don't even have ULM flair. If you care that much about ULM, be a ULM fan first and then an LSU/Bama fan second.

Pedro is the only fan that deserves a strong ULM team.

I’m just going to watch college football on Saturdays, and if the Cajuns game seems intriguing, I might tune in, or I might just leave it on whatever is on ABC or CBS.

There’s that Cajun pride in the program!

All joking aside, wtf. You can’t give up that easily.

The real name for that school in Lafayette should be-
Southwestern Louisiana Junior College in Lafayette.
All respect to ULM-they hold their true name (University of Louisiana at Monroe) with honor. My compliments to them.
On another note- there is NO "University of Louisiana" no matter how much ULALA or SWLJCL or ULL or USL thinks so. Everyone knows there is only ONE flagship university in Louisiana and that of course is Louisiana State University. End of story.

It was partially because ulm got tired of the name fight dictating their branding.

ULL will never be the university of Louisiana and ULM now has one of the dopest logos in sports ( although ESPN needs to buy into ULM like they do with unlv on tickers)

Love the state as well but Louisiana is a clunky word that doesn't roll off the tongue.

They want to keep it and have to deal with one of the shittiest brands in sports and being limited on what they can do legally. In addition never actually getting to do what they want let em
